Bombers scandal: charged, <redacted> and <infracted>

The argument would be that his evidence is discredited because he is a (insert, word of choice: druggie, criminal, liar etc etc)

ASADA can't rely on that.

Yes, i get that. But he was a convicted criminal before these latest charges so i fail to see how his credibility is affected at all (ie they could have run the argument is evidence is not credible a week ago - perhaps they had/would have anyway i guess).

I couldn't see a situation where WADA calls on the ruling body to ban the entire team from competing as it hurts every other team in the competition. This will go against WADAs charter. Instead I think it will be loss of points.

Its going to be interesting isnt it. You can ban a cycling team, no loss or real impact to others other than one less competitor to worry about, but in a league situation ?? Then again banning a team outright is NOT going to hurt all others.

But they aren't soley relying on that. They have a lot of emails, verbal evidence, interviews etc etc that all lead to the one (even if circumstantial) conclusion....

Interesting argument that the evidence of a convicted drug supplier can't be used because he supplied the drugs in this case.

Seems an interesting catch22

What a classic

Round%202%20home%20screen.jpg

I know I was scared!

How many games have we won against them with an VFL standard side?

The way things are shaping E/Dopes will have a coach to player ratio of 1:1 in 2015. Impressive! (unless you have more than 5 players on your team!)

Re penalties 1. the players are gone!!! . . whatever the penalty they wont be in any physical shape to really be competitive any stage of 2015 season.

2. the club must be whacked (if they can be whacked for two transgressors what do they get for 34 bad boys?. . apply the 2 player penalty multiplied x 17?).

I think ala Melb Storm if they can cobble together enough players/playing coaches (above) to field a team then by all means go play but no points for you, the AFL can factor that

across the competition. Also ala Storm they should be stripped of their last premiership!! . . er what year was that?

WADA doesnt give a stuff about the competition. They won't want to let them spread the pain. They want scalps. The bigger the better. They want to inflict punishment. Its the only deterrent they have.

WADA want to send a message to teams around the world. Don't mees with this stuff or we'll get you.

au contraire. I think they care a hell of a lot about the competition, which is why they will hit hard. If they didn't care they would be neglecting their charter (no pun intended).

If all the charges against him were mysteriously dropped a reasonable conspiracy theory for EFC supporters would be that he has agreed to lie to 'convict' Essendon in return for the dropping of other charges. Sadly for Essendon die-hards, they can't even resort to that.

That is a bit of a sensitive point, deefrag. It was certainly far more recently than ours

Unless of course, if Ess were stripped of their last flag, in the year 2000 it would magically become our flag!!!! So, the 13th is already done and dusted!

Nope, when we win the 13th I want it to be fair-and-square so they can keep their last flag (even tho hey didn't win it fairly)

IMHO a flag is a flag! To use golf scorecard analogy: there is no column for how!!

Think of OD Deefrag

He needs the 13th Flag before he passes away and left to our current list that may take decades to happen.

It will just be like the Americas Cup, won in the courts,

Now how annoyed would the MessyDrugs cult members all be if that was to happen?

Millions more dollars lost in lawyers fees, stop it I getting too excited!

It's just that I want these sob's put back 10yrs for disgracing the comp (and making me angry!)

Just to be clear, the UCI (cycling's governing body) don't and haven't banned any cycling teams. On a few occasions where there have been multiple doping cases in the same team, either race organisers refuse to allow the offending team to participate (by simply not inviting them), or the teams actually "ban" themselves under an agreement the've put in place. This is what happened at the recent Tour of Beijing, where Astana withdrew after two of their riders returned positives in lead-up races.

I know cycling gets a bad rap, most of well-earned and self-inflicted, but what has happened at Essendon in terms of refusing to play by the rules, going to court etc. etc., has NEVER occurred in cycling.

It would kind of suck next year playing for Essendon if you hadn't been involved in the shenanigans yet you had to play for no points and or were getting pumped week after week cos half the team was banned.

I don't think it would really help the defence of the players if it was also proved that this convicted criminal carried out services for the likes of Dank and perhaps even Hird who were servants or agents of the club.

of course they can

if they weren't happy with such an arrangement

but how do you know they wouldn't be happy in that hypothetical

Essendon ran a covert and organised regime that was designed to push the envelope. The club should definitely be punished hard. Allowing them to spread the punishment over a season doesn't make sense to me, WADA want a deterrent. The club should not be allowed to win any premiership points for a season, field a reserves team etc.

I totally agree, and this couldn't happen to a nicer bloke in Brendan Gaddard (I can't stand that guy). Everytime I think of this it delivers a very happy sensation (I know what you are thinking BBO). I really must say though that I find all this so strange, I am so used to all this negative press and news usually being directed at us. How good is this feeling of stability and it seems the only time we are making headlines is positive related news (I know we still have our issues).

I wonder what kind of shiver it sent those representing the naughty 34 upon the news that ASADA not the AFL would take the lead at the tribunal ?? Its an interesting ( and smart move by Dill ) change of dynamic.

ASADA runs Tribunal... Benny Boy back from a "boo-ha " conference gee up with WADA !!!

Could get ugly. All the protestations and filibustering by the players and club are all going to come home to roost now me thinks.

You cant help but feel WADA are tired of the joke.

Australian Sport is about to be given a lesson. Long overdue .

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
