I agree.

If anyone is silly enough to cough up a first rounder, take it and run.

i could only wish that Watts was listening to the G Abblett interview .

He might learn a few things about how a real champ goes about his craft

Is it really that crazy though? he is 22 and full of potential, he is in demand with at least 8 other teams interested and he is playing some reasonable football as it is, surely pick 9 wouldn't be that insane.

Df26 where did you get eight teams are interested?

Df26 where did you get eight teams are interested?

I read it somewhere, and then someone else told me the same thing, 8 were interested in Watts, 10 interested in Frawley ( no idea if interested means seriously interested or would have a look if they were offered up ) i know Carlton, North, Freo and GWS were some of the teams for Watts.

I'll have a quick look and see if i can find it for you.

DEAL!

Posted (edited)

We would not get near the kind of deal I would want to move him.

And like I care that he isn't showing ultimate loyalty to this club.

We have not been ultimately competent and The Jack Watts Experience is Exhibit A in the trial of this club's terrible culture of overreliance on draft picks and nonchalant development.

Jack Trengove showed after 186 that he has the kind of loyalty as a Demon that he re-signed in a dark period.

And what has that gotten him?

A whole lot of nothing.

I hope we keep Watts and the next coach gets something out of him.

Gary, Caro and Lloyd all agreed on FC that Watts needs to man up and take responsibility and not hold the club at ransom and that leaving the MFC would be the easy way out

Gary pointed to the example of Port last year who were a basket case, yet Travis Boak and Jackson Trengove both signed up when they were without a coach and said they want to stick around and turn things around for the Power

Lloyd said Watts isnt doing himself any favors by saying hes holding out to see who the coach will be

Another way to look at this latest bit of player-bashing:

Garry was a great player, but his efforts over the past few years have pretty well cancelled out the good he did us in the past, wouldn't you think?

Caro is no fount of wisdom, either. Lloyd? These are the commentators we are quoting approvingly.

But how exactly is Watts holding the club to ransom? Has his manager suggested Watts wants to be consulted, or has told the club who to appoint "or else"? Obviously not - and it cannot be a ransom note unless it states what it wants. (It would be possible that there have already been talks between Watts and the club, in which Watts indicated what coach he wanted next year, but that has not been reported, and it would be a whole different story.)

All that has gone on here is his manager has indicated that Watts is cautious and concerned about what appointment the club will make - and, given recent history, of course he would be! Garry and his mates resent the implications of this - because it reflects directly on Garry. Well, suck it up Garry, because this is the hardly surprising outcome of damage that has your fingerprints all over it.

Those running the Garry Lyon line on this, do you really object to a player seeing the last two MFC coaching fiascos in the same way as most on here see them? do you really require Watts to close ranks and protect the reputation and appearances of the Old Boys Club?

And on the analogy with Port, do you really think the hole Port was in last year was as cavernous as the one we are in now? Do you really suppose Watts or any other player should be acting on such a belief?

Garry, you are deflecting away from your own recent impact on the club, demanding everyone pretend it wasn't so bad, and doing this at the expense of one of the players of the team you supposedly still support. You should be ashamed.

way out of line. you are taking an easy out by blaming Garry for so many things, but its a complete slap in the face of someone i bet you cheered and respected when wearing the demons Jumper.

Garry has taken full responsibility for teh appointment of Neeld, thats where it should end. Thousounds of supporters loved the appointtment, teh media heralded it as a great choice and the right man to take the demons into teh future, the board supported it. thats where it ends. to suggest Garry is undoing his good work is pathetic. he is still the only voice that supports Melbourne.

How about instead of blaming past champions for the clubs current downfall, how about you portion alot of the blame to the current under achieving, spoilt, self centered, immature and dumb footballers that are the one constant in letting this team down.

you could certainly apportion 50% of blame here

Ineffective coaching and dysfunctional FD/ADMIN/Board the rest

Are you trying to convince me to trade him or keep him

He is 22

He is full of potential

He is in demand by others who reckon they can use him

MFC is travelling so well with an overwhelming choice of gifted players that the coaches have not been able to exploit that we really must let this one go for an unknown

what about getting a coach who can use him and the rest of our talented list to perform

I dont want to get repetitious about some of the simple things I think

I want the club and the coach to get on with it.

im saying we trade him, if the offer is good enough.

How often do we hear that though?

Watts has been full of potential for a long time, but hasn't produced the goods. He hasn't even shown a will to try and win or apply himself on field. We can't be hanging on to players forever just because they have potential.

We should definitely consider trading him, if the right price is on offer.

Oh I was quoting Dfan who also said he was "playing reasonable football as it is"

Dont know what goods he has to produce in a totally underperforming side so unsure what price would be reasonable.

Potential and the failure to exploit it and develop it has killed this club

What pick did we get when we sent Grgic to Geelong?

Watts reminds me so much of him.

A pick in the 50s which we spent on Brad Miller.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
