Please. Thompson is in the top 50 players in the game. He would not be a Rodan or Byrnes role player.

Would rather a few 'has beens' helping out some talented kids then some strugglers. Matt Jones is the exception to recruiting mids from state leagues.

For all you Thompson haters who have bought into the company BS - he didn't leave the MFC because he wanted to go home to SA.

Given the circumstances , we were very lucky he wanted to do the right thing and a deal could be done.

He was very ordinary the other night and is on the slide this year.

Would he still make a big difference in our midfield? Yes, he'd be our second best mid and by a fair space.

Some would argue that he'd be our best mid, but I'd prefer Jones on current form out of the two.

As of next year we really need to be blooding our own mids, Thompson wouldn't be the answer.
We really need one of Trengove, Grimes or Tapscott to step up as that second mid and help Jones out.
Viney, Toumpas and others will fill that third spot and continue to improve.

I'd prefer to make a play for Simon Black than Scott Thompson and give Black another year as a player.

He could run through our midfield part time as it suits him and teach our group first hand what it takes to be a mid, etc.

At the start of next year, Adelaide midfielder Scott Thompson who is a restricted free agent in 2013 will be 31 years of age.

Is it too romantic a notion to think that we might be able to entice him back to the fold on a 2 year contract after so many years to help in the regeneration of our midfield?

Watching him Friday night I don't think he has much if anything left in the tank.

Was...but I get your point, the others, Rodan and Byrnes have been nowhere near the top 50.

FMD he drops the ball a couple of times and somehow he's past it.

Per game he is averaging 4.5 less disposals, 2 less clearances, 1.5 less tackles, and getting less contested ball in general.

He's not past it yet, but he's definitely on a sharp decline and you'd think he only has one more year left in him based in this years form. He's getting consistently beaten by his opponents this year, doesn't have the speed or fitness to effect as many contests and thus isn't winning as much contested ball either.

After the history of him leaving us, and the fact we'd get one average year out of him, it's a pass.

I'd love to get him over here again.... we need all the professional help we can gather around the middle..

If we chase Daisy hard with a healthy longer $$$$ contract, & a big bag of folding $$$$$ for Thompson for 2 Years, IMO that would be a big quickstep forward.

& we can still draft our Mids for the future.

I know, its unlikely to shift a player in his ending days, after a happy career with their club...

I was just answering WJ's query as to who would accept Thompson back with open arms. & we need all the midfield help we can manage. he would also be handy IMO off half back... swinging between the 2 Posi's... where needed.
