The Trade/Draft Rumour Mill

Featured Replies

The second part being "unless we can get Dylan Shiels we are keeping pick 2", goodoil?

I would imagine trading pick 2 down would be smart if we are going for Freeman as people think he is around the 8-15 range and firming however i think there would be a short list of teams who will take him top 5 and we could bank on him sliding if this is our plan and get something else out of the situation.

Not sure about Freeman I know that we have been following Josh Kelly for 2 years keeping an eye on his development and I would be shocked if we still had pick 2 and didn't pick him.

love this kid, gonna be a star

just putting this out there and i love frawley more than anyone but could we do some thing with GWS like shiels, tyson and there compo pick (middle of first round) for james frawley or shiels there compo pick and the pick they get for adams from collingwood?? we get alot more than if he decides to go next year

Shiels is okay, but he aint worth pick 2.

Shiels is pretty damn good Dallas (sorry but your initials are JR!). Would definitely be happy with him. But i have watched vision of Freeman and he is a future gun! I can see why PRoos has such a high opinion of him> Also if you listened to K Shhehan today he also reinforced this. He won't be going out of top 5!

There is no such person as Dylan Shiels, it's Shiel. There is Liam (?) Shiels at Hawthorn.

Apologies, damn typewriter!

Dylan Shiel is a class player could not go wrong with him.

Why not? Which one of these kids are clearly better than him? None of them will be able to provide the instant injection of quality that Shiel will next year either. Shiel fulfills everything we want about pick 2.

He can win the ball inside or out. Has 33 games under his belt. Does the hard stuff but also finishes off with disposal and goals. Would be perfect.

Adelaide desperately want aish.

We have pick 2.

Follow that trail and see what can be conjured.

Pick 2 for sloane? Is that fair? Maybe if it is sweetened.

That's where the deal is.

Can't help but think P Roos is conditioning us all for a Frawley trade or putting heat on Chip to extend ASAP. Spud and pick 2 in return for Shiel and pick 10 or 11 (from Collingwood for Adams) to allow us to draft young mid. Would leave a gaping hole in defense.

Everything he puts in the media has a purpose - has great ability to look as though he's just passing commentary on footy - but think he's always got an agenda to get out.

wouldnt do spud and pick 2 it would have to be frawley for shiel and pick 10 they need backmen and he is the best in the biz

Would Frawley even want to go to GWS?

We worry about not being able to trade for a GWS player that doesn't want to come to us, so shouldn't it also work in the opposite direction?

I'm not a fan of trading Chip just because he'll be a RFA.

We can match it, and I simply can't see him being offered what we are unable to match.

If it means we have to pay more of the cap, fine, we pay more of the cap.

Even if we match and then trade.

But I can't foresee us being unable to match it.

Dallas?

I like it.

Anyways, I just think he's above average, but not great....Shiel I mean.

Frawley leaving next year will mean we get Band 1 comp and a top 5 pick most likely, or we trade or keep him as a RFA.

If you don't know the FA rules, google them or search for a thread on here.

Now back to the rumours...

love this kid, gonna be a star

Have heard that once or twice before over the last 7 years. Still waiting..........

Pick 2 for Brad Crouch would be amazing

How do u know this Demoneyes???

How do u know this Demoneyes???

He doesn't. Unless we don't improve massively next year its bye bye Frawley.

This link is from an article in the Sun, http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/melbourne-coach-paul-roos-says-clubs-could-start-trading-their-stars-early/story-fni5f91a-1226735616834

Roos makes a couple of very interesting points. With lousy compensation for free agents clubs will trade players in the last year of their contract if they don't want to extend their existing contract. Is that a message to any of our players in this position? The article then goes on to quash any thoughts of Rockliff being recruited, saying "Roos adamant Melbourne will part with selection two for a young midfielder. The Demons have inquired about Brisbane’s Tom Rockliff who has declined their offer, with West Coast’s Luke Shuey also not available despite overtures".

Fairly definitive statement IMO

didn't I tell you guys the club was super keen on Luke Shuey?

He doesn't. Unless we don't improve massively next year its bye bye Frawley.

If we don't start improving I think its bye bye a lot of supporters and more players too.

Just look now how players don't want to come near us.

  • PREVIEW: Brisbane

And just like that, we’re Narrm again. Even though the annual AFL Sir Doug Nicholls Round which commemorates the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture to our game has been a welcome addition to our calendar for ten years, more lately it has been a portent of tough times ahead for we beleaguered Narrm supporters. Ever since the club broke through for its historic 2021 premiership, this has become a troubling time of the year for the club. For example, it all began when Melbourne rebranded itself as Narrm across the two rounds of the Sir Doug Nicholls Round to become the first club to adopt an Indigenous club name especially for the occasion. It won its first outing under the brand against lowly North Melbourne to go to 10 wins and no losses but not without a struggle or a major injury to  star winger Ed Langdon who broke his ribs and missed several weeks. In the following week, still as Narrm, the team’s 17 game winning streak came to an end at the hands of the Dockers. That came along with more injuries, a plague that remained with them for the remainder of the season until, beset by injuries, the Dees were eliminated from the finals in straight sets. It was even worse last year, when Narrm inexplicably lowered its colours in Perth to the Waalit Marawar Eagles. Oh, the shame of it all! At least this year, if there is a corner to turn around, it has to be in the direction of something better. To that end, I produced a special pre-game chant in the local Narrm language - “nam mi:wi winnamun katjil prolin ambi ngamar thamelin amb” which roughly translated is “every heart beats true for the red and the blue.” >y belief is that if all of the Narrm faithful recite it long enough, then it might prove to be the only way to beat the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba on Sunday. The Lions are coming off a disappointing draw at Marvel Stadium against a North Melbourne team that lacks the ability and know how to win games (except when playing Melbourne). Brisbane are, however, a different kettle of fish at home and have very few positional weaknesses. They are a midfield powerhouse, strong in defence and have plenty of forward options, particularly their small and medium sized players, to kick a winning score this week after the sting of last week’s below par performance.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

  • PREGAME: Brisbane

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
