Warren got delisted last year jazza, it was a bit of a surprise as they were so keen to sign him up in 2009 and he was still doing quite well in the VFL 2011/2012. Had a leg break in 2011 I think.

So far this season he's had 41 goals from 12 matches so he should be looked at by at least a couple of clubs.

Faint praise.

He's been better than that. Given us grunt and the ability to break away from the middle for several weeks now.

Those perennial baggers of the Gillies-Pederson-Byrnes recruitment threads should make a note to strike off Rodan now before they embarrass themselves further.

If his form holds I'd give him one more year.

I don't think he has been adequate in more than two games (Hawthorn and WBD) and next year once we have a developing player vying for his spot, he'll probably be a waste of a spot on the list anyway.

Does anyone have a clip of his goal? It was the only minute I wasn't watching.

Disagree. Grimes in for Dunn, Viney in for Blease or Byrnes if we had those 2 available before the dogs game. Even if they played mainly midfield our midfield numbers are so low one of Magner or Rodan would be getting a game.

Ideally I think 9 is the bare minimum for midfielders in your starting 22 (with 4 forwards, 6 defenders, 1 sub and 2 rucks). So that makes Jones, Sylvia, Viney, Grimes, Toumpas, M. Jones, Evans, Tagger (Mckenzie or Nicho) and one of Rodan/Magner only makes 9.

No doubt with everyone available there would be genuine debate over the final spots of selection between a Rodan or Matt Jones or Evans or Toumpas or a forward like Blease or Kent but I think ideally you'd have what Geelong do which is players like Stokes and Christensen who are really midfielders but capable of dual roles. If in doubt I'd go with the extra mids as you noticed we ran out of midfield power in the last 15 minutes against the dogs.

Grimes won't come in for Dunn (as much as I'd enjoy that). Dunn's being used in defence and Grimes has been used this year in the middle.

I think Grimes and Viney will be pushing directly at Rodan's spot, as well as Byrnes, Nicholson and Blease (our more fringe midfielders).

He did a good job Saturday - looked a lot "freer of spirit" than when I saw him last - Neeld vs Craig factor?

And, an inspirational goal.

Good game but call me if he repeats against a good team at some point

Did ok against Hawthorn.

Byrnes and Rodan, and by extension Neeld, have been catapulted into the Realm of Reasons our List Is Terrible and it isn't fair at all.

The draft, trades and FA allows a certain amount of potential or actual A or B grade players to come onto your list.

Nat Draft top 50 picks, PSD top 3 picks, about 4 or 5 FAs, and a few trades can get those players.

Once you get past that point you are looking at what you can do make your list better for that next year.

We went older with the selections after that: Terlich, Matt Jones, Dawes, Rodan, Byrnes, Pedersen, Clisby and Gillies were targetted for that reason with the outlay being:

ND Picks 20, 45, 70, 88, RD Pick 19, Martin and Gysberts.

IMO:

Dawes is worth the outlay of 20 and 45.

Jones was worth Martin.

Terlich was worth Pick 70.

Rodan and Byrnes were worth the spot on the list ahead of whatever speculative player that was out there.

Clisby was worth RD Pick 19.

I don't know whether Pedersen was worth Gysberts - frankly neither look like making much of an impact on the AFL.

Gillies was not worth the outlay of an early PSD pick (which is what we gave up when we signed him as a DFA).

Our list is thin for mids because of decisions made in the past.

Enjoy!

Loved that Rodan goal! (I am presently in New York and haven't seen any footy for five weeks)!

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
