Senior players who have to lift the standards, & their standards?

its time to take a look at who we've let go under the MFC radar.

Davey? is he as good as he needs to be, & can be? or does he spectate?

Jamar, has he got another gear he's yet to unearth?

J Mac?

Dunn, has he got another level, or is this It for his footy?

Magner?

Couch?

Bail?

Sellar?

Spencer, time to slither up another rung Snake.

Jetta?

McKenzie?

theres 11 names who should be looking sharp, re their footy.

wheres the leadership coming from in this group?

Harsh on Magner. Hardly had the chance to step up with such limited opportunities.

And Couch and Spencer.

Substitute the NQRs for an even dozen.

All those guys bar Davey and Jetta cannot hit targets.

Couch may need a go.

Turf the rest.

Well then he's got to find another level to become more... he has to keep on pushing his name up, & do something to become a regular...

its in his court..

this post was about all our mature players who need to find something to force they're way into a regular game. & who need to step up in the leadership stakes.

its not charity. its make it or break.

no doubt some will, Biff.

Dunn really needs to sort himself out. He's been really careless with his kicking recently. He has a good boot, but he needs to use it properly.

played a good game on Judd it think it was, & thats about all she wrote.

I was told by one of Dunn's under age coaches when he was first drafted that he was fine - as long as he didn't think and just played instinctively.

"He needs a coach who doesn't fill his mind with too much information. He mustn't think - it doesn't suit his game."

That's the leadership group laid out on paper and as you can see half are injured and the rest who aren't are giving as much as they can.

The rest of the guys who have played over 100 games are Sylvia, Jamar, Dunn, Davey, Rodan and Joel Macdonald. No one else has played over 65 games on our list.

From that group Davey is just about giving what he has left. Same with Rodan I'd say. I'm not convinced Dunn is AFL standard I think he's just lasted this long on a list and with games due to how poor we've been. Joel Macdonald has been injured besides from that he played one half decent game. Which leaves us with Sylvia and Jamar who have both being mediocre at best. It would certainly help if russian started getting involved in play more but he is winning the hit outs most week and giving our midfield a fighting change. Then Sylvia...well what to say about him. Is he having somewhat of a try - well yes I'd give him that, but he's certainly a mile off what he could do.

Watts, McKenzie, Tapscott, Howe, Jetta, Bail are the group who should be starting to reach their peak and if Terlich and Matt Jones can perform most weeks then why can't this lot. Unfortunately I see here a group of frustrated forwards who may not be all that good anyway (Watts, Tapscott, Bail) and a limited tagger. Not exactly the class but then again if they were they'd be in the leadership group I names first. Blease and Strauss have had injuries and poor coaching to take away from them getting the games up and getting in this sorry bunch as well.

I know I will be hounded by most D'Landers for my next comment. So be it.

Nathan Jones our best player, needs to step up and improve his disposal.

He is fantastic at getting the ball but his disposal by foot is usually just a long bomb to no one or a miss kick to the opposition.

His handballs rarely go to a player not under pressure.

Neeld an a lot of players talk about the turnovers in the centre, he is a prime candidate for that.

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
