At least swooper could coach, them the days.

Brett Ratten would be a good choice, did pretty well at Carlton with an ordinary list albeit with a handful of stars. They treated him really poorly.

Experienced coaches I'd prefer to Matthew Knights

1. Paul Roos (lead candidate)

2. John Worsfold (if West Coast continue their current form he may become available)

3. Rodney Eade (Runs on the board with Swans & Dogs and probably more stable then Williams)

4. Mark Williams (See Eade's cooments. Bonus, coached Power to premiership)

5. Brett Ratten (Got Carlton to three consecutive finals series after 7 years out. Was flying last year until injuries)

6. John Northey (Dream of mine and ticks all boxes. Age is the obvious barrier)

7. Dean Laidley (Did a decent job with North. They were always a tough team to play under Laidley)

8. Garry Ayres (Decent coaching career in AFL and has had sustained success at Port Melbourne).

Edit: Forgot Laidley.

Dont rule out Clarkson as silly as it sounds.

If Haw bomb out of the finals, buddy leaves he might think Ive taken this group as far as i can time for somebody else to have a go. I'll take the 5 year offer from melb now instead of coach the last year of my current contract and run the risk of not getting another one.

Or he might win the flag with Haw and then think the same thing.

it might not be great for us though when his family has him committed to an insane asylum after leaving arguably the power club of the competition to go to the biggest shambles since Fitzroy

Yep, must be an experienced coach, at whatever cost. Any of your top 4 for me, none of your next, though any (except Swoop, even though he was great for us IN 1987 - 26 years ago!!) would be great choices as assistants.

Not only experienced. We need a coach that either played in a premiership side - or preferably - has coached a side (senior coached a side) to a premiership. One who has built lists like eade or Williams would also be ideal.

Roos has never constructed a solid list - he inherited Eades.

A mate thinks neeld was talked up by Malt so he would leave the pies to undermine Buckley.

I agree HELL NO to Knights, only because I don't think he is a good fit for us.... The bloke can obviously coach.

A good fit for us is currently being interviewed on the Couch, it's a crying shame that Ken Hinkley isn't coach of MFC.

To listen to Hinkley tonight, just frustrates me more.

Could tell that Paul Roos was nearly gobsmacked on Hinkley, Roos was asking all the right questions, it's the only time this year Roo's hasn't talked about himself.

Hopefully all the Peter Jackson supporters like this (and there seems to be a majority of them)... Is he the Messiah ?? He will NEED to be...

It's a bit alarming when the entire Essendon playing group didn't respect Knights back in 2010!

Who said the playing group didnt respect him?

Lethal for sure -- is a better option

PJ already got burnt on Knightmare - so unless he is interested in revisiting bad memories and the beginning of the end at windy pill....NO!

I'm surprised that nobody mentioned Sheedy. I know there may be a problem with how he wasn't treated well by us in the past but he knows how to relate to players and brings a lot more than just coaching such as how to use the media. He's sharp as a tack. A few of us were screaming for him in the past and in retrospect, they may have been right.

How does he get on with PJ?

Coach aside, I'm at least as eager get our recruitment right.

I cannot think of a better record as player and coach than Leigh Mathews

IMO he is the best option alive

Does it guarantee success ?

Nope

Bit harsh on Matty Knights

after all he did come from Merbein

So did Hassa Mann :)

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
