GAMEDAY - ROUND 5

Brown has been thankfully absent, the last thing we need is for him to start firing

Too easy for them to get around us in the midfield. Too many tackles not sticking. They seem to have way too much time with the ball. Running and body strength in desperate need of improvement!

Watts just gave up on the chase out of our forward line - pathetic and gone. Probably a nice bloke - never want to see him again...

Watts gone forward thank [censored]

Watts can not be selected after this garbage, can you imagine how Dunn and Strauss must feel with this loser getting games ahead of them

Watts has gone forward, praise The Lord!

He's been running between back and forward all game, hence why he's knackered.

One of the few really trying to chase, his teammates are letting him down on that front.

Number of Kicks are similar, but they have 111 handballs to our 47.

Everything else is pretty even.

McKenzie very underdone looks really slow.

Pederson is an absoloute spud.

Should be 6 goals down.

Get a clue mate. Watch how much ground he's covering and how many times he's left the lone chaser, that's why you notice him.

Watts gone forward thank [censored]

Except that he won't / can't / knows not how to ........chase!!!!!

FFFFFFFAAAAAARRRRRRKKKKKKKK

70 possessions less, they kicked 2.8......we should be 5 goals down minimum.

We are confused little boys out there.

Looking at half time

Body language we will win this game.

Stuie - really...

This game is proof that Beamer is a flat track bully. Our midfield is as flat track as it gets.

We should be 3 or 4 goals down but still in it. We need to chase a gun mid at seasons end!!!!!!

God almighty boys. Perspective please. I agree that the Lions should be winning by more but be thankful. In the past, the head would have dropped by now and it would have become a procession.

Rodan, Blease, watts are all liabilities, no defensive pressure or second efforts what so ever. Melbourne have a terrible work rate with too many lazy footballers. Until this changes we will stay at the bottom of the ladder.

Side note: while Watts has been woeful and nowhere near enough physical presence, seems to be a bit restricted in his running. Anyone aware of any injury concerns?

Watch. The. Game. Properly.

He's buggered cos he's the only one chasing and the way the zone is setup he's doing everyone's work.

Our skills, fitness, ability to close down space and mental application are just so second rate.

How we are only 6 points down is beyond me. We look absolutely knackered and just can't break tackles or hit targets. Work so hard to bring it out of defence and then a costly turn over happens.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
