We miss you too Beamer!

Stu, even if you prescribe to the theory that Neeld is to blame for Beamer's sudden disenchantment and dramatic drop in form in 2012, he's not a child. He takes a portion of that blame himself, it's just debatable as to how much.

He served the club he loved well, but some of his true colours were shown in how he handled his situation last year. If he kept his head down and got in with it, we probably wouldn't be having this discussion.instead he chose a path which, like it or hate it, [censored] on some of the legacy he left behind.

I actually don't know what the problem was, and truth is none of us do. That's why I get sick of all the rubbish being spewed about how he "cracked it" or didn't "buy in" etc etc.

Surely the reasonable answer is it was a combination of factors. Just find all the bagging out too unbalanced.

Apart from 3 or 4 players, the rest of our players probably didn't buy in last year. Green mentioned it a few times in his retirement press conference. A number of our players looked like they dropped their bundle. Moloney was just seen to be the most visible one.

Many of our other players escaped scrutiny. 15 are now gone from last years list. Many who stayed on our list escaped the heat. They are now belatedly copping it and not within time.

The bigger picture should always be looked at and context should never be conveniently ignored. If people were a bit more balanced then this debate/argument wouldn't be happening.

Macca, do you agree that Moloney had severe deficiencies to his defensive game even before Neeld came to the club? Do you also agree that for a player whose game was built on attack he failed to hurt the opposition by impacting the scoreboard often enough?

We've had/have an absolute stack of players with deficiencies in their defensive side. That's why we get pumped most of the time. Check the scores in the first 3 rounds for the direct evidence. Apart from Clark, do we have any players that impact the scoreboard on a consistent basis? The focus should be broadened, not narrowed.

Moloney is an attacking midfielder with not much of a defensive side to his game. That's it. You won't change him so why bother. With a 28 year old, you're better off dealing with what you've got and then try to get the best out of that players good points. To do otherwise is most probably a complete and utter waste of time. Like playing Rivers in the forward line - almost a total waste of time and effort. Trying to turn Moloney into a defensive half forward at his age was a poor decision. Should we do the same with Jones?

Here's one for you ...

Skilton used Laurie Fowler at the centre bounces in 1975 because he believed that Wells didn't have much a defensive side to his game. Wells was a gun in my opinion. Check Demonwiki for the proof of that information.

Or supporters that spew stuff like that about a best and fairest winner....

Fair point Stu, my post probably should have been more 'balanced', and to be fair, I should have shown a bit more respect to a B&F winner. However, I maintain that Moloney showed the traits I mentioned too often over his career at Melbourne, and in particular, I find it inexcusable that a professional sportsman should 'drop his head' throughout a full season, no matter what the reason.

My main concern is that no one has stepped up and replaced the finger. How is anyone to know where to go or who has done the wrong thing without BM's pointing finger telling them?

Watching us this year we actually look like we could do with someone out there doing some finger pointing.

To be honest, using gifs is a way of using irony to reflect the current sad state of MFC and Demonland.

All the conspiracy theories, buzz words, insults... it's all a bit of a mess at the moment.

I like your optimism, but don't know if I'd go with that logic when it comes to MFC...

Haha yeah right, irony - more like a way of trying to ridicule someone when you can't use facts or logic to create a coherent argument. It's the internet equivalent of "I know you are but what am I?" Now go and post more hypocritical rubbish about negative lynch-mobs looking to tear the club apart with their buzz-words while every other post you make is lobbying for the coach to be sacked.

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
