In your rather jaundiced opinion, I supposed you expected the AFL to order us to either amalgamate with another Club or move interstate by now, you seem to hold more stead in what comes out of AFL HQ rather than your own Club, rather said state of affairs, sorry forgot and whatever Caroline Wilson deems as the truth as well

6 years on the bottom with more to come.

That is the important bit. The MFC put itself where it is. Botched draft picks. Dodgy sponsors, we have done it all.

But as long as there is a hot cuppa when you are on the phone Saty..all is good hey.

WYL, you swing back & forth like a Collingwood supporter... things are not black & white, unless one is Colour Blind.

I mentioned June 22 for a reason, that the days start getting longer....

but even after the 'solstice change'.... the days continue to get colder, for some time... it takes approximately 6 weeks for the Temperature to bottom out after the changes, even though the days are getting brighter.

the momentum continues to cool, even after the changes, for nearly 6 weeks. Before it is arrested by the unwavering pressure from the Suns warmth.

... the necessary changes that have taken place over the off season did undermine us in the short term, & now the players have started to regroup & the groups desire is there for all to see.

{ But Grimes was equally happy for coach Mark Neeld, who has had to contend with an inordinate amount of challenges since he took over in September 2011.

“It was massive. We were rapt that he got that win and to see his face after the game was priceless, because he has been through a lot and credit to him, the belief that he’s kept with us players,” he said.

“What he’s got through personally - he gets up and instills his positivity in the group.

“He keeps us together and it’s a real credit to him and I think it’s been pretty clear, the support from us players towards Neeldy and what he’s doing at the moment and that’ll continue in the future, because we just love the way he’s going about it, and it was great to see him get the reward on the weekend.”

Grimes said Neeld was delighted with the way Melbourne responded – it kicked 12.2 to 2.2 in the final term.

“He was rapt with the way we responded, because our backs were against the walls in the third quarter and at three quarter time,” he said. }

You just don't give up do you.....you really do sound like the old proverbial broken record, are you actually looking forward to us being on the bottom, it sounds like it, it you are, your situation is even sadder than I first thought

..the sponsor was replaced with a better one...

How many times do you want to cover the in your opinion botched draft picks, can't you just move forward, every single club does it, tell you what go to Casey on Saturday night and watch young Jesse Hogan tear another defender a new one...that is the future, give the neck a bit of a rest from continually looking backwards

What else would you like to "debate" and I use that term very loosely.

Steady as she goes?

Cripes we have lurched from one crisis to the next followed by disaster.

We are so far off steady!!!

Thank God the cruise ships I have been on are not as steady as the good ship MFC.

If we were a ship we would be at the bottom of the pacific by now.

the inquisition was not our doing & we were scapegoated, with a caveat I suspect. thanks Colonel Klink.

then the drugs in sport, come off it... every club thru one chemist or another has used "Supplements" since the 70's... it's only that we haven't until now, & we would still be a small bit player, compered to those who would be quaking about now.

crisis to crisis? invented by vexatious others outside our club, who want to bang us up because we have started to clean out the dead wood, & the cobwebs, & some have vindictiveness in their hearts.

this is not the fault of those who are doing the cleanout....

So some supporters are stressed & angry by the media stories about us over the last 8 months, which have originated from scorned individuals,,, so many here want to then attack our own club, rather than the origins of the Vindictive acts???

You know, the Days start getting longer from June 22.

Dee-luded I have one large problem with the above.

You seem to pre suppose that we are constantly attacked by the Media and the AFL without cause.

90% of our problems are self made.

The last two disasters Tanking, we tanked and the Doctor affair, we misled the AFL are classic.

Neither the AFL or the media made those up.

We created the problem i.e. the MFC

The other big one is we have a crap list and play poorly.

Again neither the AFL or the Media made our draft selections we did.

Please stop blaming everyone else for our own created problems.

We sailed the Good ship MFC into stormy waters no one else did.

If any one thinks this latest disaster is going away quickly forget it.

We are in deep crap just like the tanking disaster.

Lloyds would not give us cover at present.

Fair Enough. I am not as happy as you.

I think this board has had ample time to get us off the floor, The AFL continues to give us a pretty soft draw.

God help this club if we start with 4 away games!!

I can only hope that Peter Jackson comes in with the right mindset. To get the right people, and not listen to mates.

Those days are over.

Mates can still catch up in the bar.

I'm more angry at the performance by the players than the performance by our board.

Im not 100% happy, dont get me wrong, but I they did what the set out to do and promised: got us debt free, increased our membership, and gave our players the best facilities and coaching staff out there.

There have been a number of f$&k ups, but at least they have done something.

For me the only thing the players have done is grow a beard. Give me a game like the fourth last week and I'll be happy.

There are two thing I disagree with PJ.

- IMO the board since 2008 has put people in place to run the day to day affairs of the MFC.

These people have obviously not done a good job as we have gone down hill constantly over the last 5 years to the point

where we are now. in the end that comes back to the top i.e. the Board

- You make the assumption that the playing list is capable of much better performance on the field than it has so far showed.

Are you certain they are capable of much better? IMO we have a poor list that are not capable of a lot better.

An old saying says you cannot pull your socks up if you don't have on, IMO applies here.

Fair comment not all that the board has done is bad.

But my smoke alarm went off after 186 and it continues to scream.

And they ALL survived that day.

Now if you go back and watch On The Couch when Brad Green is interviewed days before, he does a stoic job, but it is easy to see a massive problem was unfolding. That was the point where The Red & Blueprint failed.

But we kept plummetting for 2 more years with a failed strategy.

No wonder players walked last year.

At least Jared Rivers put in till his last moment. I will always respect him for that.

It was good to see Flash running hard in the last Quarter on Sunday.

Your first point is very wide sweeping. Do you mean across the club or just in the football department.

I'm confident we have a better media/communications team, I think our work with casey is very good, our membership staff I'm sure are reasonable. And based on our financial position the high up financial guys must have done something right.

In terms of football department I'm hopeful Taylor will make a better recruiter than BP.

This Dank saga questions our doctor, I'm not happy with him. It also brings into question Craig and Misson who I thought up until this stage were doing very good work and just needed time to see results.

The development coaches are almost a new investment, therefore they have to be better than whoever was doing that job before.

I suppose one question is what are the strengths of our assistant coaches. We've heard rumours or Rawlings and Neeld clashing, we all dislike Royal and who knows about Leigh Brown. And the biggest question of all hangs over Neeld.

Now on to your second point. They aren't world beaters but look at how the guys in the VFL perform. Casey are playing great footy. A lot of the guys we send out there each week are physically capable of much better efforts. They might not be able to stop the Selwoods or Abletts or Franklins but I've got no doubt they can run and chase and scrap and go after the ball. We will get a good look at how far we've come this week. Get blown out by 10+ goals by Brisbane and I might agree with you. Fight and scrap and actually make a contest of it and I'll be happier!

The red and blue print was dooomed to fail. You can't have a blue print that revolves around dividing success up into quarters and ticking them off. This game is way too competitive for that.

What we needed was a simple plan. Invest in football department. Continue to review ways to get better. Have faith in your staff but at the same time monitor performance from board level.

I was trying to be brief TM.

Yes they have done some good things But the major reason the club exists and the one we all care about is the performance of the team that plays in the AFL.

After five years it is a dismal failure there is no other way to describe it.

Yes our players play well at VFL level, it is a light year below AFL standard.

Look I want them to play well against reasonable sides but up till now I have seen no evidence of that happening.

I agree the buck has to stop somewhere.

Re Cameron Schwab youre right, he was elected and was chosen as part of Jim's new strategy in 2008: New president, new board and new CEO.

As I said, there have been a number of f*&k ups. Of note:

1) Cameron Schwab. Originally I thought it was a good appointment, I still like CS and clearly things werent working out with him and other participants in the MFC + why he was offered a 3 year contract was just silly

2) EnergyWatch. To be honest I believe any board would have accepted them as a sponsor, and I think due dilligence was taken (and other clubs also were in the same boat) but that hit the fan

3) Tanking. Jim Stynes and the 2008 board presided over the club during this time, but we were found not guilty - the only reason why I've included this is that they appointed CC who made the comments

4) 186 saga. The media have said the original move was to get rid of both DB and CS at the same time but Jim and others thought it was too unstable.

5) Transperancy with the AFL over Dank. Yet to be concluded

However might I add I am extremely happy with the way they have handled all these issues, particluarly in regards to the tanking allegations, and this has also continued through with EnergyWatch response and standing beside Liam Jurrah.

In regards to the players - looking back at our 22 in 2010 I dont think our list was all too bad. We had a number of senior players, and young guns coming through but alot of unexpected things happened (see wonna, Jurrah, multiple injuries such as Gawn, Martin and Petterd)

When looking at draft picks its important to remember picks made before the 2008 Stynes board and to be honest I'm extremely happy with the picks we made last year.

When you have the newest and best AFL facilities, getting paid on average $200k and have great support staff like Craig and Misson, I cant help but expect a little bit more than beards, hot tubs and 'confidence issues'. I think for too long they have avioded the spot light and its about time we look at the performance of the players.

Remember last year with Mark Neeld and the 186 issue with Dean Bailey are two different coaching periods, two different strategies.

I dont know what incident youre referring to when you say no wonder players walked last year - was that in relation to the 186 or MN?

I'm happy with this current strategy but I think I'm not wrong in saying that MN's success determines the fate of the board.

Sorry for being so positive you wouldn't understand.

what would you expect WYL with the team that danners allowed to wag the dog.

there is little space to hide @ the narrows of etihad.

that means that you have to be a strong defensive side, that can pressure the opposition to cough up the ball. free running teams that like the wide wings & no physicality would struggle against the disciplined hard working teams.

we wouldn't chase back then, we wouldn't be responsible for our opponents, except for the Jnr's & the Whelans & the godfreys.

we weren't physical so danners brought in one player to do the job??? no culture change there.

When Neitz, Whelan, Jnr, had finished up, we were left without any spine at all.

... now we are growing one.
