I just wanted to acknowledge the efforts of these 3 players in the leadership they showed today in righting the ship..

when things were untidy they showed their guts.

& they brought some mates in with them.

Colins last quarter today was brilliant.

That run he took through the middle of ground and set up Evans goal was incredible.

Colin is unstoppable at his best, lets unleash him

God i hope Colin can find some consistency, when he really wants to he can be a star.

Has all the tools to be top ten in the AFL.

Would be good to see Col play as a pure midfielder. God knows we need it, we have lots of options for half forward. He should be starting at every possible centre bounce.

I have a good feeling that col will repay us.

Now for them to do that 4 qtr's every week and build that winning, hard at it culture :)

Cameo's are our problem.

we will assume you aren't including Jonesy in that group

I can't heap too much praise on Sylvia, every year he gives us these glimpses

Rather than 'glimpses', the reality is that he has been amongst our better players each game this year yet he still gets bagged (along with Watts) unmercifully on here. It is not just the fact that he was a high draft pick but he attracts unfair scrutiny whilst many under performers who were lower picks escape criticism. IMO anyone who gets drafted at AFL level should get 'objective' criticism.

I have said it before - I think much of our future will be determined on our senior players such as Jones, Syliva, Byrnes and Davey. If they can lift and lead by example the whole team will lift and show passion and desire like in the last quarter. Neeld needs to find some way of getting the senior players fired up!

Good post.

Well done boys.

I see a genuine improvement in terms of consistency from Sylvia, Howe and Trengove. They are in the game for longer and longer each week. If - and when - we can get them in a game for a full 4 quarters our fortunes will change big time.

As for Jones, he does not have the skill of Flower, but when we look back over this period of being pathetic just like in the 70's, we will give Jones enormous credit for a being the one consistent player who gave his all every week, and excelled at times under a lot of pressure.

Howe and Jones are must keeps by the club, hope Colin stays aswell would love to see consistant 4quaters every week no matter the oppersition

Col Sylvia, I thought at Half time after his little dummy spit at Nev Jetta, that he was gone, that looked bad to have a crack at someone that made the right decision and even worse Nev kept running resulting in a goal and Col was no where to be seen. Then in the last quarter he gets into the midfield and this is the way he needs to play week in week out and I have been at this for a number of years, please play him in our midfield, is is by far our most talented midfielder.

Cols final quarter was the catalyst, he willed himself to dominate in the middle.
I watched him really closely in the first quarter, when the ball wasnt necessarily in his general vicinity, and he was working

so hard creating lead after lead and was continually ignored due to players taking the easier sideways option. When it

did come his way his ability to use his body strength to get in prime position was a feature.

I think its good to have many players who we can swing in to the mids.

Having too many players stuck in just one role, makes it easier for oppositions to plan out downfall.

We still lack big bodies thru the midzone, & some more mongrel. McKenzie to return, & Strauss.

i think u left off grimesy - very underrated but very consistent

sthing howe, sylvia need to learn

absolutely agree, but I'm focused on the others, who aren't captains, who are adding leadership, behind the captains...

this is where we will get our improvement from, more senior players buying in to the program, from the front.

.... next thing is to weed out the other players who won't go when its their turn. we have no room in a Red & Blue jumper for them.

watching these 3 when Melbourne are in full flight, just makes me smile

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
