Magner to be elevated at years end & play 2014 in the middle. Not that negative role Neeld had him in last year.

this year,,, soon.

& Neeld had him winning possessions at the start of 2012, before he gave him defensive roles.

remember how we got Hogan, Toumpas, & Viney @ 22 ?

Bate played and had no more than 6 out so touches for the poster that asked. He looks to have dropped 6 or 7kgs since last year, very fined down

Dominant quarter by the Scorps 19.9.123 EFC 7.12.54

Kent with6 or so touches and a goal.

Not even MFC could screw up Hogan becoming anything less than superstar.

really, don't let him near the Northern Stand.

Toumpas did not play.

Not much not to like. Hogan , Strauss, Spencer and Couch best of the MFC for mine. Taggert very exciting but drifted in and out. Would not be surprised if Jordie had 40 touches but very choppy with the ball.

Bate looks like he has not had a meal since the day he was delisted.

i asked a few weeks ago how the notoriously terrible at player development Demons were able to produce two great KPP's in Neitz and Schwarz and whats so different about our player development these days

Someone reminded me that Schwarz and Neitz came through the under 19's and that may have been a great base for them.

I see Hogans season at Casey as a similar, if not better form of development for him. I am glad as hell he is not eligible to play for the MFC this season as it may have ruined the young kid,

Jesse is going to be a superstar, and this season at Casey is going to be the perfect springboard for his career

I'd like to remind you that the Clubs Core Culture around 1992, had been bred into our core of young players by Jordan & Barassi in the mid 80's.

Those young players were now in their primes around '92 - '93 & the club was strong at that time due to great beginnings grown from the Barassi/Jordan team.

that is a good time to come into a Club Culture,,, when confidence & team expectations are High.

Now I ask you what happened to players like TJohnstone (discipline), Green (not hard enough), White (not hard enough), Bruce (not hard enough & disposal), Robbo (wouldn't chase) ???????

where did our hard earned club culture vanish somewhere between 1990 & 2006???

... we had some talented players, & strong lists of talent but,,,, total underachievement... those lists should have gone further & more consistently under Balme & daniher than they did.

tjhis should be the last ever game Strauss plays for Casey, hes easily an AFL level player

I would love for him to have three consecutive good games - imagine what that would do for confidence. And we need confidence!

It depends how the rest of the team's backline plays tomorrow. If they play like they have so far, he'll be selected next week. If they turn up and decide to try, Strauss might need to put in another good performance for Casey next week.

Does not have the smarts to play AFL.

Worst post ive seen on this forum in a while

Does not have the smarts to play AFL.

Then would you like to explain why he is on our list?

Posted

Based on the first three weeks of the season, 90% of the players on our list don't have the smarts to play AFL.

I disagree - they have the smarts but just are not using them effectively. As for Strauss, he needs to be given a shot (he did show promise before breaking his leg!). He seems to have performed very well over the last 3 weeks at Casey and I think he will surprise a few.

And by smarts I assume you mean ability to make decisions in a game (under pressure) - something that I believe you are not just born with, you can improve that

Posted

I think a lot of the "smarts" of making decisions under pressure comes from a strong team performance. Anyone playing in our defence will look a bit lost at the moment due to the amount of times (and the speed) that it goes in there.

Didn't see Strauss play today but from what I've seen he's certainly got a bit to offer. But until our midfield improves I can't see any change in the defence lineup making much difference

Or play on the wing?

Would it be a stupid idea to have a policy at MFC where our new draftees have to play a year with casey before stepping up to afl.

This way there body develops, they learn the game plans and structures.

Just a thought.

Say we picked up Joel Selwood, as he was at Geelong, would you want him to spend the year a Casey?

I wouldn't.

What you suggest will happen more often if we even become a decent side.

spot on.

Intelligent people when under a lot of pressure, from illness or stress, etc, will not have as high an IQ, as when they are well & happy, & free of major pressure.

same for footy, when the whole team in under the pump & struggling, it will always appear worse than it really is, individually. many will make stupid mistakes. especially the younger ones, & the slower ones.

Posted

Strauss has the smarts, but he's exceptionally soft. He lacks AFL intensity, but his skills and the extra time at VFL level make him look good.

Fools gold.

Scholarships.

Scholarships for 17 Yr old draftees, & to spend the season @ VFL, & school footy, thru their last year of 2ndary school?

It consisted of a match simulation for one half  and then a free choice activity time. Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
