Jimmy Toumpas

Featured Replies

He stands on the players foot and rolls his foot over and under one outside which will stretch those ligaments and can do some decent damage, and if any one has done that and actually hurt the ligaments then its quite painful.

wow, if that is how Toumpas acted over a rolled ankle, I would hate to see him have a real injury...

I actually think it was the fact he had a player pushing down on the ankle as it rolled that hurt him the most, definitely looked painful in the replay so i certainly won't be judging him as soft just yet,

Thought he looked much more up to speed with AFL football this game, certainly think he will make it.

So how long do we have before criticise him like we do with Jack Watts?

You want a time limit? FFS, you're honestly champing at the bit to get stuck into him? If that's your attitude towards young draftees, then you need to find another sport more suited to your impatience and unsupportive nature. Perhaps dog fights or a game of pistol Russian roulette. I hope you are not serious Benson.

Not every post is a serious post. I was being oddly sarcastic!!

I think I might have to agree with Benson here. I've had some very severe ankle injuries in the past, and I never reacted anything like that. It was reminiscent of the Gary Lyon stretcher incident (not least because they look a little alike).

How do you have any idea how he felt?

As the master pointed out above, Michael Hurley went down hard with his rolled ankle a few weeks ago. Last year Luke Ball went down like he'd done his ACL only to come back out on the field (he later did do his ACL, but from what I heard that was the second tackle, not the first).

It's insulting and unfair to effectively call him soft because he got injured.

Ok, apologies. Oddly it was.

Rolled ankle, went down like he'd been shot so I thought it may have been broken.

... and then shrugged the trainers off so he could jog to the bench unhindered.

And received a subdued but respectful applause from supporters on the members' wing.

That's about it, without the bias.

You can't write a player off at this age or early stage. Rediculous. Nor know how he'll develop in the next 3 to 4 years in a such a poorly skilled team such as this. However, If we ever manage to get our act together with recruiting/developing other players around him in the next few years then who knows.

I haven't seen enough of him yet so this is pure speculation but based on what I've seen so far I'd be looking at developing him as an outside mid along with Evans who pushes forward when possible to provide another avenue to goal. The closest player he reminds me of, albeit a million miles away right now, is something akin to a Burgoyne. Don't hold me to that though pls. This is the MFC we're talking about.

Read my post again, in which I pretty much said I have no idea how it might have felt.

I wasn't having a go at the kid, just saying the injury looked serious.

Ahh, sarcasm. The refuge of all Demonlanders.

So you've never rolled yours badly? Ease up.

Obviously I'm no doctor, and some of the worst injuries can be very innocuous, but it looked like he didn't handle a very simple injury very well. I have been developing an idea about Jimmy Toumpas over the past eight weeks, and that incident played right into what I suspect might be the case with him.

I'm not willing to write such a young guy off right now, but it does not appear that he has what it takes.

Oh ffs that is ridiculous. Rolled ankle is a very loose term and we know the club is very light on when talking seriousness of injuries. Give the 18yr old kid a break.

Threads like this make me dislike some of our own supporter base sometimes.

Jeez I wouldn't back the guy in for a long career at the MFC if he read some of the shite people post on here, his confidence would be shot.

Chook, a bit harsh?

Chook, a bit harsh?

A bit?? I would say it is close to the shittest thing I have read on this site for a while, and that is saying something. By all means, critique the kids game, but FFS, to have a go at him about the handling of his injury is just ridiculous.

Watched toumpas closely today. Whilst lost at times, also thought he was less lost than first couple of rounds. Don't blame Jimmy, as in a Ross lyon team he would come into the side with a role and know how to execute the role. Appears to me Neeld just sees some good skills at training so throws him onto hff and let's him flounder.

Fair enough, I guess people have different threshold levels to pain. Only Toumpas will know how much pain he went through.

The way we were turning the ball over and richmond was spreading he got lost in transition. Needs more time to get his feet, he also needs team members to support him and deliver the ball well to him.

"I've had some very severe ankle injuries in the past, and I never reacted anything like that."

I also said that every body is different, and so I can't really judge how bad his injury was. Feel free to ignore that part if you want, but whatever. I stick by what I said - all of it. If you want to pull out only one bit of it and quote me on it, that's your call.

Get better soon, Jimmy.

Absolutely. Above the ridiculous comments that have made this thread turn to s**t, lets hope the young guy's ankle isn't badly injured and he's back on the park soon. We're behind you Jimmy.
