The problem in some respects is this idea that leaders and therefore their leadership is the province of the mid 20 yo's.

The reality is leadehip comes from leaders irrespective of age.

Viney leads by example...and ffs hes played all of one game. Hogan isnt shy about informing his team mates about wbst ought to be happening and hes played NONE !!!

Look at the ages of Trenners and Grimesy.

Watts needs to worry less about anyone providing the light of the way forwsrd and just grt on with his own game to the extent of his abilities .

Less think.... More DO

Stuie i don't want to hear JW say WE.

I want to hear JW say "I"

I will become that leader. Don't give a vauge deflection. Do it himself.

Hes 22, a number 1 pick and not in a 9 man leadership group, your going to be the last guy waiting, as for a top quality footy player, thats still within his reach, but it has to happen this season.

But he has been a leader before at school.

Plenty of people have peaked at 16, hes not at school anymore, Julia Gillard was a leader at school also , it means nothing, ask Junior Mac, its how bad you want it.

i agree. How much does he want it or is he waiting for somebody else to do it?

What is your point Stuie?

You are happy that JW just keeps the status quo?

That it will all happen next week or next season?

Because some of us are throwing out a challenge to a talented boy we are haters...is that it?

Come on WYL, you're not THAT dumb, I've jousted with you often and even when we disagree I don't usually think of you as so clueless...

All I'm trying to explain to the usual Watts haters is what he ACTUALLY SAID, not what Cummings chose to write.

He said the team crumbles under pressure and they ALL need to work on it. It's really not that controversial, in fact it's spot on.

Jack is one of the players, so he's saying everyone including him. It's really quite simple.

I think he's saying everyone needs to go easy on Jack. Just let him waltz through a ten year career without achieiving anything.

Don't hurt his feelings. He's a sensitive young man. I'm pretty sure that's what Stuie's saying.

I know EXACTLY what he said & I know EXACTLY what it meant.

I don't think you do.....

No. You don't.

You WANT it to mean something else so you can have a go at him.

It's really simple. He said "we suck. we need to get better. all of us, including me".

End of story.

I'm with you, Stuie. Not defending Watts poor performance last week, but yours seems the more accurate interpretation of what he actually said.

Excellent article in the hun by Gerard Whately online now - compares JW to many of his contemporaries. Damning stuff.

Another BS article. Contemporaries? Most of those players have at least one more years and/or seasons on Watts, if not more (Mitch Robinson is nearly 2 years older).

Cherry picking a few of the early emergers, while ignoring the vast bulk of players Watts' age, while also ignoring the fact that JW missed a large chunk of last year just when he was starting to find his feet.

Cheap journalism - but obviously, it works.

Whateley demonstrates in an unbiased article how deeply entrenched our problems are. There is a slide on, and all the club can waffle on about is elite mindsets. We have a winning run against Essendon but all Neeld talks about is kpi's and elite mindsets. the players, the coaches the whole club is in denial. this thing about re-build is a total furphy, we are a club that is now permanently rebuilding supported in the short term by the AFL's largesse.

Watts wrong with Melbourne? Here's a good place to start, writes Gerard Whateley

PS: Good to at least see Jack Trengove front up against Port Adelaide.

I dont like kicking people when there down but the story is spot on. What has jack achieved compared to the other players mentioned in the article? Jack needs to become a leader plus become accountable on the field. Does he have the mongrel inside him? or is he happy just getting a game? Its time for him to show us what he can become

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
