But it hit the wrong nerve. It didn't hit the "I'm embarrassed about my team's performance and attitude" nerve. It hit the "I'm trying so lay off me because it's just a job" nerve. Not good.

That attitude is probably an accurate description of how some thing to be honest. But I dont blame them entirely. 186 is still raw.

Then how come he is still on the rookie list?

He was not elevated at the end of 2012 and will only get a game if someone goes down with a serious injury.

List management Old Dee. If we elevated him last year someone else would have had to have been traded/delisted and possibly paid out on their contract.

This way he can stay on the rookie list for his second year, cost the club much less and will most likely be elevated next season after the two years.

Absolutely, think of going on a long hike and finding yourself at a magnificent breath taking destination - it's peaceful, calm and relaxing.In one way that is what it's like, you paddle out the back of the crashing waves, you sit and wait - no technology like phones or internet to distract you just the feeling of the ocean and wind with the crashing dull whitewash behind you. Once done back to that thinking process, slightly more relieved to realistically think and deal with the issue at hand, and so the process repeats for a couple to a several hours.Many people remain to have the old fashioned views of surfing and surfers, although majority of these people haven't tried it on their own let alone beyond the learn to surf classes held at your local beach. I would consider the remedy in the same class as playing or listening to music, or creating a piece of art although incorporating intensive burst exercise.

That's probably the main point I took out of it. Of course the players can go for a surf, and then can react within reason to wankers harassing them, but I found that an odd angle he took.

We have players out there who have the temerity to live their lives after a loss.

We shouldn't be attacking them for it.

I'm 18 years old, I go to uni and I'm a shop hand. I get paid maybe $150 a week, and I don't always want to work, but when I go there I make sure the job is done and that I don't go home without completing everything that's asked of me.

This group of players has been unaccountable for too long.

If they had won on the weekend, or even put in a bit of effort and lost gallantly, there wouldn't be an issue.

Magner and Bail aren't the issue, because they didn't play and were unavailable.

Jones concerns me, because I would have thought he would be a leader and encouraging the players to be accountable.

I understand that they can't sit in a locked room, and if they were given time off they have every right to go for a surf, but they should have agreed to being sensible on social media until the sting from the loss is gone.

Okay, I agree they are in a very lucky position, they are living many Australian men's dreams. And I often shake my head at how many footy players take it for granted. I have no doubt the majority of them have no idea how lucky they are and how hard it is in the 'real world', where you come home equally as tired, with much less money, and much less adulation. However you also come home with much less (or no) public criticism. You can go surfing and post a pic of it on instagram and no-one knows you are the one that f*%$#d up a big account the day before. You can go and have a drink without people talking $hit to you about how crap you and your team are, and without being criticised that you are, god forbid, taking a few hours of time for yourself! This idea that they are 'not accountable' and not trying is ridiculous. Like I said before, the losses hurt them more than ANYBODY! I cannot fathom how seemingly intelligent people could possibly think they feel it more than the players. I am telling you, without doubt, they are trying their hardest. Maybe they are all really crap footy players, I don't know. But they have trained their ar$es off all preseason, and they all went into that game really positive, just as they did at the beginning of last season. I don't know WTH went wrong, neither do they, but all this rubbish about how much it is hurting you as a supporter, and how they should refrain from posting a pic of them surfing until the 'sting from the loss' is gone is just so silly! They are allowed to have a life! Seriously what sort of players do you think they would be if they all sat at the club 24/7 thinking and talking about footy? You know the saying- "all work and no play....".

And don't get me started on the 'role model' thing! Yes thousands of little kids look up to them, and even if they don't want to be role models, really, it comes with the job and I believe they do need to suck it up and act good for the sake of all the kids out there who don't need to think all footy players drink/take drugs etc. However, for myself, I'll be using the times footy players stuff up as teaching moments for my kids. Yes they may be a great footy players, but underneath it all, they are still just a person, like you and me, and people make mistakes. Look at how much trouble you can get into for drinking/gambling/taking drugs too much etc. I guess its a bit hard when the parents are wetting themselves when a footy players is anywhere nearby though isn't it?

Anyway, vent over, but I think people should remember basic psychology (and parenting) states that if you tell someone enough that they are hopeless, they will be. Its a self-fulfilling prophecy. Something to think about....

James Magner looked dirty at training this morning. I think that he is really upset that he is on the rookie list and not playing for the Demons. Hopefully he will make it an easy decision to upgrade him to the senior list next year.
