From Labrador to the big show.

Nice little step up for him.

I'm a big fan, but it's hard to just take note of training form. Another poster that went to training recently didn't think much of him, whereas at one of mine he was the standout. He's fast, tall, smart, and a beautiful kick. He looks a lot like Taggert, who doesn't impress me as much. I wonder if the poster confused him with Taggert ?

He could be a real midfield find. But it may take him half a season to get used to the AFL speed and pressure. Toumpas, Viney, Blease, Barry and Matt Jones all have speed and deliver well by foot. The club targeted midfield pace in the off season and have come up trumps.

He looks to be a replacement for Gysberts, in terms of physical attributes and appearance. Hopefully with a better work ethic.

God, didn't realise he was that skinny.

Bring back Cale!

His story sounds kinda reminiscent of Jimmy Magner this time last year. An older guy, overlooked through his junior footy who now, finally gets a chance in the big time. I wish him every success!

Let us hope that his performance is consistent over the 22 rounds unlike Magner who started off impressively but seemed to burn out towards the latter half of the season!

With far more strings to his bow and better skills.

Nice little article on Matt Jones. Whats everones thoughts, is he a chance to play this year? how has he been on the training track.

Had been mixing him up with Terlich initially at training and had been singing Deans praises, when should have been praising Matt.

Very impressed with what I have seen and see him playing more than a couple of games this year

And less AFL games than Magner too. Come on BH, you're so negative lately, even your compliments are backhanded. Chin up mate!

So you can read, comprehension a bit too much?

Easy Rod. Just merely saying you can compliment a guy without bringing another down. I'm excited to see what Jones can do as well.

So much angst on this site lately.

How on earth can you construe that as negative?!

To be fair to magner, after playing well in the guts for a few weeks he was moved to an unfamiliar playing role as a defensive forward. I don't think he lacked for effort or burned out

James is on record as saying he burned out, that by mid season his body was shot.

From what I have seen of him in the VFL and training, I would liken him to Ryan Griffen from the Dogs. Obviously he is not of the same calibre but he is a tall mid with speed and good skills. I think he will play a lot of games this year.

Jones trained with the Dogs before the draft in 2011, he was very unlucky to miss out to Austin. His season at Box Hill was very good in 2012 when he played in the middle. As Box Hill had a lot of Hawthorn players running around in the VFL last year when Jones was forced to play on the wing or half back he struggled but some of his work through the midfeild was that of an AFL standard.

It appeared to me that after only one top level preseason he did exactly that - burned out. Hopefully with another load of hard work he will, given the opportunity, last longer. And yes, Neeld wanted to see what else he could do - heaven forbid, was that tanking?

Maybe send him to WCE or Essendrug training sessions :-))

Surely you recruit mature ages to play?

Surely you recruit every player to play.

Yeah I guess I walked right into that one. But you know what I meant

Just fact. You can please yourself how you take it, or how it reads. I'm not into nursing every poor souls feelings on here.

    TRAINING: Wednesday 12th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
