Pick your favorite team of Melbourne players since 1987.

Fb- s.white, frawley, whelan

Hb- Lovett, neitz, grimes

C- tingay, t.viney, stretch

Hf- Lyon, schwarz, green

Ff- farmer, Jakovich, robertson

Fol: stynes, jones, Johnstone

Int: davey, Howe, j.white, yze

Swap Grimes for Febey. Swap Howe for Bruce. Then it's pretty bang on IMO

Posted

B: S. Wight J. Frawley M. Whelan (easiest line of all. These 3 clear of all other contenders)

HB: B. Lovett D. Neitz S. Febey

C: S. Tingay T. Viney A. Johnson

HF: A. Yze D. Schwarz G. Lyon

F: J. Farmer A. Jakovich R. Robertson

R: J. Stynes T. Johnstone B. Wilson

I: J. White R. Grinter N. Jones J. Mcdonald (sub)

R. Flower finished in 1987 but goes in every MFC best team.

Disappointed I couldn't get Hardeman in. He was a the best CHB I have ever seen.

Great team anyway, but a few suggested changes.

Febey over Grimes. Would have Howe not Robertson. Woewodin on the bench. Travis out and B Wilson in as follower. Grinter replace Whelan. A Johnstone in for Stretch. Darren Jolly in Jeff White out. White's leap is nullified with centre line in ruck circle. I know many would regard this as blasphemy but Scott Thompson over T Viney. Almost as hard but much more skilled.

WTF?

both those players (Jolly & Thompson) did nothing in the demons jumper compared to Viney and White.

Great player, one of my favourites going to the footy as a kid; took a big mark too, pity they didn't have cameras at every ground in those days, the highlights reel would have been a beauty.

Depends on if you rate their whole careers or if you are only judging them by what they did at the Demons. If you're going whole career, then yeah you're right and Thompson and Jolly should definitely be in. If it's just time at the Dees, no way.

Great team anyway,

It's a depressing team. That midfield would struggle to be top quartile in todays competition.

To think that in 25 years we can't cobble together a better midfield than that tell us why we haven't been able to win a flag.

My first thought was you were being a bit harsh 'Bob' but on reflection it probably goes for most of the team. If we can't sneak Robbie in then it really shows where we're at, not one champion of the game since '87. A few real favourites from my perspective as a fan but hardly household names from an outsiders viewpoint.

There's an awful lot of players in the two decades '90's and 00's who played and weren't even good enough to get into this team. Jeez we've suffered years of crap from this Club. Poor facilities, poor football departments, poor players, no money. I would suggest most of those issues have been fixed now. Time to see if the team starts being competitive and a few of this current crop are good enough to push players out of that team. Although I just read Neeld says he and Misson are only 2yrs into a 3yr program to get their physical development up to competitive.

Yep, hopefully someone (or more) can step up in this bunch of players.

Wouldn't be great if in 15 years time, we could include the following players;

Watts

Toumpas

Trengove

Clark

J.viney

Hogan

It would need to happen if we want to win a premiership.

Jack viney replaces his father. That would be nice.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
