Ultimate Footy 2013 - Norm Smith League

I'm unable to admin it as there'll be patches where I'm unavailable to view things regularly during the year. Happy to guide this thread until some brave soul steps forward, though..

Sorry RR same goes for me, expecting my first little Demon in the very near future (due next week) - pretty sure my play book will rather full without putting my hand up to lead. I'm sure someone will step in for JA this year

Would love to join if any free spots come up.

I'll put you down on the waitlist Stinga, along with Deeflog. We should know within fortnight who's in and who's out and if any spots open up. Otherwise, there'll be the Robbie Flower League to try or even a third league if there's enough interest.

What about teams that played in Robbie flower league last season?

Who was your admin? Get it going again.

I noticed that we have to sign up to fairfax to play UF this season - isn't that a kick in the groin...

Anyway, I will do that at some point and we have to figure out how to do the keeper stuff. And I have to remember my keepers...

Dangerfield was one. Did i still have Ziebell? And who the hell were my youngsters?

I am stepping aside, so someone else can take my place.

Too many disputes and suspect trades last year for me to continue. By no means a reflection on JA, he did a great job under trying conditions

I couldnt see myself going through all that again. the 1st year was great, the 2nd year ??.... couldnt end quick enough.

I'll probably regret it at some stage this year, as there are some tough coaches to play against.

I wish everyone good luck.

okay, i'm still not committing to admin, but i set up the league.

now if you sign up for your fairfax account, then link your account with your old one i think you can join in. this way you can select your keepers from last year within the system.

if someone can confirm this it would be helpful

Once you have logged on, you nominate your keepers. This is done on the site, under the 'pre-season draft' tab.

Remember:

2 keepers

& 2 rookie keepers (born in 1991 or later)

Once you have nominated I will confirm it by entering it into the draft system. No need to rush I won't confirm until just before the draft.

For those of you interested, there is a possibility of trading players (keepers only) and future draft picks if you want. But it will have to be submitted to our new admin guy.

OK the sign up process is quite painless.

You can link your 2012 Account easily and dont stress about forgetting your final 2012 player list it comes straight up.

Keeper selection is also straight forward via the Pre Season Draft tab.

Draft date is set at 10th March commencing @ 7.00pm

Unfortunatey I wont be the brave soul stepping forward to takeover the admin duties from Jack Attack either.

I will be OS way to often in 2013 to do the role justice.

Looking forward to revisiting some fierce rivalries this season.

Now has anyone seen my old mate JCB31??????????

tough to say goodbye to kennedy, judd, cornes, kerr, sewell and barlow

No worries Jako and congrats on bringing a new Demon into the world!

Sorry to hear this Deevoted. You were a valued Norm Smith Coach. Are you quite sure you want to relinquish that prestigious mantle? I have a feeling things will be a bit more settled this season.

With the draft on March 10, we should probably set a deadline of March 1 for entries into the league. If you have a change of heart, you have up until then.

Excellent JA. Are you quite sure you don't want to admin? I thinbk with things more firmly set in stone and Rpfc's mooted 'dummy spit' rule, there will be far less turmoil this season.

I've started it. There really isn't much to do after the draft, so I guess I can continue on. But I, like others, can't guarantee I'll be around much this year, I will still play the game, but after the draft I probably won't spend much time dealing with the questions and arguments so much.

Just a thought on our selection of keepers ... it may be better to hold off on doing this until as close to draft day as possible.

It would be a disaster if one of them (or two or three of them!) when down with season-enders during the NAB cup.

The system simply allows you to nominate keepers from last year, in reality I still have to set your lineups pre-draft. So I don't want them in too late. Give me a week before the draft for me to sort it out. Also I suggest you nominate your keepers now anyway so that in case you miss the cut-off you will at least have players you picked. Also this allows me to set an indicative lineup so that we can start to see what the draft will look like. (I think this will work, but the options to set your keepers opens on the 7th Feb so i'm not 100% on it just yet.

If someone forgets to nominate they will be autopick keepers, the highest ranked players from your team. (same with rookies).

Summary: Set your keepers now, but you can change them up until the week before the draft.

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
