186 - Hall of Shame

Featured Replies

9 Players now gone from the 22 that 'represented the club' in Rd 19, 2011. They are Gys, Bate, Moloney (did not get a stat!), Rivers, Petterd, Martin, Maric, Jurrah, Green.

Interestingly three of those players (Gys 11, Rivers 10 and Martin 10) were the only players to have 10 kicks or more

Finally someone is ruthless.

Go Dees. Go Neeld.

Hall fo shame - is that a list of the worst Vietnamese soup restaurants?

An excellent point that the Media never bring up...186 that is, not vietnamese soup kitchens which i love, unlike 186!!!

What was this "186" game everyone talks of? Darts only goes to 180... It's not a particularly high cricket score, even for a Twenty20... Doesn't seem to fit for basketball, soccer, rugby, ice hockey or netball... 4 great rounds of golf perhaps? 1 bad game of golf?

My bowling figures if I'm made captain for the day.

Nunfer.

Not sure if Jurrah was actually playing during 186....

Price of bananas in 12 years? Though I'm not sure what part Jurrah will play in that, either.

Care to name the rest of the hacks that wore our jumper that day that are still on our list?

Or are you only interested in Knifing the players in the back that have left the club?

Gutsy!!!

In the year 186 Peasants in Gaul staged an anti-tax uprising under Maternus.

I guess they may have been hungrier than many MFC players !!

Isnt 186 a knock shop in south melbourne? LOL

Look there is no one we have gotten rid of that added some of the qualities we need in this side other than perhaps Brent.

Is that where Alan Jones "privately"addresses the Young Libs?

There are more factors involved, but it is no concidence that so many of the mediocre players from the 186 game have been delisted, Rivers aside. One of Neeld's main mentors is Blight - look what he did at Adelaide.

What is interesting is that Neeld hasn't gone only to the draft, but has traded for players to replace many of them, and these players are fringe players from other clubs. Big bodies appears to be his main recruiting philosophy for this stage of the development of the list.

Not sure if any of them were.

"186" is the most over emphasized, over dramatized event I can recall EVER.

FFS get over it. It was bad, but it was ONE GAME. It does NOT define us.

Lol.. Yes I'm sure Mark Neeld based his list decisions on one game 18 months ago in Geelong when he had nothing to do with us...

Yes Stuie we need to get over it. However, we should not turn it into a joke as some above have. We must never forget it and do whatever it takes to ensure that such humiliation is not repeated.

GTFO it's not ANZAC day mate.

Of course we should get over it and forget it. It was ONE GAME. DO we still celebrate the wins? No. That's how GOOD football teams do it, they move on to the next challenge rather than dwell on the past. Ever heard the saying "one week at a time"?!!

Well actually I think it has defined us since that time. Hence the Neeld slash and burn burn policy to bury it. I think you and I are on much the same wavelength but the "one week at a time" cliche does worry me.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.
