It was a pleasure to coach Jordie.  Jordie played twenty games - mostly as a tagger - for the Melbourne Football Club.  Jordie’s attention to detail with all aspects of his football was outstanding. He often tagged the best players in the competition, and there weren’t too many occasions where he didn’t get the job done.  Jordie’s ability to be able to win the contested footy in his own right is certainly a strength of his game, and I thought that the way that he went about it with his defensive aspects - particularly his tackling - led the way for a lot of teammates.  - Brian Royal (midfield coach) melbournefc.com.au

As with everyone else, I obviously love his attack and his tenacity.

However, he simply must improve his disposal if he's going to be a key member of the team moving forward.

Spot on he really is a poor kick

He's a tagger, nothing more. Will be making way for better skilled mids and distributors in the coming seasons but can still fulfill a weekly lockdown role.

Must have got the record for the number of deperate smothers all year hope he continues to work as hard

Will never die wondering. I'd love to bottle that quality of his and force more than a few of his team-mates to drink the stuff.

McKenzie is an outstanding tagger. There is always a place in a team for a tagger, especially ones that can get the hard ball and not just take the other player out of the game. McKenzie is a keeper. yes he does need to improve his disposal work but he's not the only one who does on our list!

Was out in Echuca on the weekend and was lucky enough to meet Jordie McKenzie out and got the chance to have a chat with him for about half an hour about footy. Have met him a couple years ago when he first came on the scene and have to say, you could not meet a nicer bloke and he is just happy to chat to anybody.

Asked him about Viney in the draft and where he would go, he just laughed and said he will be a dee, he (Jack) knew, the club knew and all the players already knew this. Everything else was just media fluff.

Asked him about Moloney and he said since mid year he just didnt want to be there.

On Riv, Jordie said the whole team adores him, he is one of the most loved and respected guys around the club and most of the players think he will stay.

Across the bar there was a dozen or so tiges players (Newman, Deledio, Grigg were there) and I asked if he could please tackle them... for old times sake. He just started laughing and said 'righto, you take them high and I'll get them low.'

Finally while laughing at some other random crap we spoke about I asked him when is he going to start kicking goals and hurting teams. He said he sees himself as a full forward and he continually lets Mitch know that he is only keeping his true position warm till he gets back in the goal square.

Legend!

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
