You do realize they have to pay their drafted players yeah? All the pressure is on Collingwood as they will have to offload players.

Obviously, that's why I made the point bout the salary cap and not accepting a player from us. Yeah I see that but it's not like they are going to accept a third rounder for Dawes, so what do you propose?

Dawes is a big spud, nothing more - nothing less.

Theres no positive spin on this, hopefully it doesn't eventuate as Dawes is barely even up to AFL standard.

Martin is a rich mans Dawes with more upside and I say that not overrating Stef Martin.

Good lord, if dawes is such a spud, i'd like to see what you think of our players. He had a bad year, but would be useful in the future.

We offer them a third rounder, and if they don't take the offer then they can deal with the salary cap breaches.

Why would we trade the best ruckman on our list for a giant plodder? I'll take Dawes for a third round pick please, or Collingwood can throw in a decent draft pick for us if they want Martin.

Martin is not our best ruckman, he's probably not even third or fourth best being behind Jamar, Clark, Gawn when he's fit, Spencer & even possibly Fitzpatrick in coming years. He's a pretty terrible footballer who can do some athletic things on occasions.

Unbelievable hatred towards Dawes on this thread, and simultaneous unfounded comparisons with Martin, where Martin comes out on top.

There simply isn't any basis for claiming Martin is better than Dawes. I'm sorry to all Martin fans, but he's achieved very, very little in his career so far, and Dawes has done more.

If the price is right, he should definitely be on our radar, as he'll help Clark immensely and that helps the team.

Thoughts exactly. But as I've said before I have a feeling we may keep Martin now it appears that Rivers will be lost.

If you take too much notice of many people on here nearly anyone who has been mentioned as a pick up is a spud. Its not as though we are over stacked with power forwards, we have one Clark. The criteria for recruiting someone should be can they improve the side. They don't have to be the next Buddy Franklin

The funny thing is I can't see Collingwood wanting Martin now that Lynch is going there but I guess if they lose Dawes they may want him but I just don't see it.

They can't get both of them.

As much as I joked the other day about Dawes physique he suits Neeld's structure.

I'm somewhat ambivalent as to whether we go for him, or not, but comparing him to Martin is comparing apples and oranges. Martin is a better ruck than forward - and he's no great ruck - and Dawes is a key forward who at 24 is coming into his best years.

Martin's problem is that he'll only ever be an OK ruck and never a decent key forward. Dawes is no world beater, but he has displayed good form on occasions as a key forward. We shouldn't readily dismiss a key forward that has a premiership medallion hanging around his neck who's about to enter his prime.

The first post on this thread said that collingwood will get Tippett and we will go after dawes but they just singed Lynch so collingwood can't get Tippett and Lynch, they wouldn't fit In there salary cap.

Be happy to pick up Dawes for Martin if we are solid on Hogan in the mini-draft.

If he get Dawes it'll be a magnificent coup.

Not only will it support our Mitch, but he's a forward and that's all his role will be.

I will applaud Neeld and Harrington to the ends of time if they get this done.

Richmond can keep their spud FAs.

I expect that Collingwood have picked up Lynch to play the Leigh Brown fwd-ruck role and let Cloke and Dawes resume their successful 2010 roles. I expect Dawes to stay at Collingwood.

Neeld has seen Collingwood's twin-tall forward structure in full motion and I'm sure he wants to replicate it here.

Lynch is out and Tippett will break the bank. Pedersen, Casboult and any others mentioned are depth at best.

It's Dawes or Hogan, I reckon. Wishing for both.

We need a plug and play big forward and Dawes seems to be the only one left. He will play a role and demand a very good opposition defender. No doubt he's looked average this season but so did Cloke for a large majority.

But Cloke at least had some talent to begin with, he was always going to come good at some stage.

Dawes on the other hand, different story for the big lumbering spud.

Has always impressed with his physical presence and will do even moreso with our lightweight mob.

Attacks the footy with intent, breaks packs - may be no Coleman winner but could fit the jigsaw. I say Yeah!

I get the feeling that any argument will not change your mind about Dawes so I won't pursue one.

Have a nice day.

    TRAINING: Monday 20th January 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator attended training out at Casey Fields to bring you the following observations from Preseason Training. GATOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS There were 5 in the main rehab group, namely Gawn, Petracca, Fullarton, Woewodin and Lever.  Laurie was running laps by himself, as was Jefferson.  Chandler, as has been reported, had his arm in a sling.  Lindsay did a bit of lap running later on. Some of the ''rehab 5'' participated in non contact drills and b

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov
