The Grand Final Thread

Yes i hope the Coach watches that GF a couple of times.

The real stuff for him & our club starts on monday.

We must recruit some players who are ready to go round 1.

New blood who couldn't get regular games at other clubs for reasons out of their control.

Yes we do need kids. But we need experience more.

2013 the respect of the MFC must begin. At present we have none.

But Norm now watches over his MCG.

The next best feeling after a Demons, win is a dawks grand final loss. Absolutely hate that team with a passion & at the moment I'll cherish the night. Might even watch the replay.

it was good ripping in to Hawks supporters today.

They expected that cup all year.

My facebook page has gone feral. Love it.

Seems funny that the shite and wee didn't see it coming.

I hate them all-worse than the Filth.

Lets hope a spiral down the ladder follows.

The only thing wrong with today was that I wasnt surrounded by the usual mob of arrogant Hawks supporters so I could rub it in...at the very end if the truth be known.

My son had to tell me to stop looking around.."there arent any here, just watch the game".

The place was full of fellows who had brought their wives for their one game of the year.

Its the players who need to watch the game.Neeld has seen the Pies play committed football for years.

If they were in town and werent there they are a disgrace.

Can you imagine Watts playing loose down back today? Even when he was 20 metres back Gibson looked dangerous, not like he was waiting for a free ride on a reality bus.

point taken & i do agree, but it is Neeld who must mould this list. He must identify the talent. Because we do need some results next year.

But yes i hope the boys were watching & not scared by it.

Today was real footy, as most Grannies are.

I'm sounding like a broken record but don't forget they have almost just under one million dollars more per year to spend on players.

I'll say it again, they have recruited and drafted very well but I don't get excited by it when they have an unfair advantage.

True... But they are up against the ridiculous home ground advantage that Melbourne teams have when the GF is played at the MCG. It's a horribly unpopular thing to say but I think that it's time for the national game's big event to lose its Melbourne bias.

Besides, I lost patience for this argument when Eddie bleated about it while losing to the Lions (who waited for their time longer than us).

And for the record, I'll go anywhere to watch MFC play in a GF.

I'm pretty certain Neeld was at the ground somewhere and that all the Assistants were watching it as well.

yes. I was interested today at the pub i was in, that everybody has absolutely no time or respect for the MFC when i mentioned who i followed.

We are on our own. Which maybe a good thing.

My Martin Luther King moment: I had a dream today - a guy, number 10 named Morton - two vital goals and some important heavy lifting in a winning GF side. Then I woke up!

Trouble is, BW - the GF doesn't just get set up in the week after the PFs; it takes months. So if not at the G, where the greatest number of teams play and where the greatest number of spectators can fit in, (and where the Dees have their ancestral home) then how do you decide where?

You may argue for the city of the reigning premiers, but say for example that Sydney don't even make the top 4 next year, then HM would attend a game at Homebush?

The prelim finals get set up in the week after the semi finals, so it should be possible for the GF to be set up in the week following the GF. All of the extraneous pieces of the GF get in the way of the actual game. It might even allow for more members of the relevant clubs to attend.

The biggest problem with the salary cap has only just begun, Free Agency.

If they aren't a top four team each year for now one their List Manager should be shot.

is the 10% advantage locked in infinitum? Or is it dropping each year?

As far as I know it's permanent (happy to be corrected on this).

Like I said, the justification is the cost of living, but that would mean Adelaide teams should have a lower salary cap.

yes it is an interesting one.

But we just have to get better. No point bringing up excuses.

We have done too much of that.

Did Neville Jettas mum put in a word for Lewis after Neville was drafted?

Yes and she should be on our recruiting panel.

Recruiting......... nobody knows!

but she knows.

Words to the effect of ........'but there is a better one coming'

OMG; our recruiters were over paid nobodies and that is one reason why.

They were lucky Swans won.

If Hawks won that free kick count would have been a controversy.

Yes and It wasn't so much the free kick count as the number of missed frees that the Swans didn't get.

Also I see that the Dawks have the privilege of being allowed to flick pass and even throw the ball.

GFC!!!

the AFL are going to have to allow umpire bashing now or there will be a revolution.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
