My son and daughter are both demons through and through. The trick I used to make them die hard demons was not to follow the team but follow a player. My daughter is six and she said she likes number 10! I had to tell her to pick another number cause number 10 is no good so she chose number 9 and she loves JT.

Just dropped my kid off at 4 year old kinder for footy day. He's not that interested in footy but trotted off in his guernsey quite happily. I smiled (when he wasn't looking)

Hahah that is hilarious. Just wait for the day when she meets him at some family day and she blirts out "My Daddy told me number 10 is no good!"

I am about a day away from my first child and have held off renewing the membership until that day arrives.

My partner a St Kilda supporter is now a Dees member and refers to "our boys" but the idea of getting married on condition she supports the Dees is a good one.

Each year I sign up my 2 brothers, my partner and our dog who also sleeps on the Dee pet mat.

Names are picked but whilst under the influence of the drugs I am going to slip the following names through onto the certificate:

Hassa

Ron

Mitch

Jimma

Ox

and if its a girl:

Hassa

Ron

Mitch

Jimma

Ox

The only demons my 13 year old is interested appear in the online games he plays with his mates on Steam! My 10 year old is a Dees supporter (and member), but it's been difficult for him having gone to see the Swans game as his first experience and having seen two of his favourites in Jurrah and Green depart the club. The win over GWS in Canberra helped keep him interested, so he remains a Dees fan so far.

I am not in the least bit surprised when kids start following teams like Geelong and Hawthorn, as its natural to follow a winning team...that's what initially drew me to the Dees in the 50's.

I grew up in country Victoria with two sisters. Dad and I were Demons while Mum and the girls were Geelong supporters. Dad and I still talk to the 3 of them.

I live in WA now and don't plan on returning. My young bloke is only 3 years old and has enough Demon stuff to kit-out a small primary school. I guess the challenge will be when he actually does start going to school over here and is exposed to all of the awful Eagles and Dockers kiddies. Will he be strong enough to refrain from getting involved with the 'wrong crowd'?

I'm hoping I won't have to bring it up at parent/teacher interviews in the future.

Its quiet simple really, you dont give them a choice.

I have 3 children and all follow the dees as passionately as I do.

And yes it can be detrimental to your health but who else would you follow??

I even signed my dog up for a Pets Membership ($20)........He gets a demon rug to lie on and a great demons collar tag....He doesn't really care if we win or lose and is happy to watch the games with the family next to the heater........

I don't have to worry that he will change teams as I think he will be a demon for life......

Didnt know that existed! There will be one more furry Melbourne member next year !

Edit - its gone up to $35 and you get a pillow for the pooch to lie on. Harvey Wayne Hershel is now paid up !

At Dudley's funeral yesterday I was asked - by two former MFC greats - how I kept up my great-nephews' enthusiasm for the Dees. I told them that we concentrate on individual players rather than game results. The boys got to meet their favourite players - Jack Watts and Mitch Clark - at the 'G this year. I'm not worried... they're Demons for life!

I asked my Uncle this question cause his a mad richmond supporter and my auntie is a Calton supporter.

I never understood how he got his daughter To barrack for Richmand considering she hasn't see them play a final for the past 12 years.

He told me the best way is to take them to the family days so they meet the players and they get a connection with them so they don't just seem like players on tv.

I have a 4 month old daughter and my wife barracks for west coast cause she form Perth.

Iv already got her a demons dummy, socks and my old genssy is sitting in her wardrobe, I watch ever game with her and sing the theme song to her all the time.

As soon as she can walk I'll be taking her a Casey fields for the family day to make shore she doesn't go for the bluddy west coast eageles cause my wife has said to me "You have 5 years, If Melbourne don't make a Final by then she's going for west coast".

There is no way that is happening.

Welcome to the family.

Poor little blighter.

if your kids arent demons you have failed as a father

Totally agree with this.

That said, I reckon the real challenge/sport is getting the kids of your mates to support the Dees.

It is possible.

If you want your kids to support Melbourne.

Don't marry a Pies, Bombers, Blues or Tigers supporter.

It'll just end in tears or the Divorce court.

My kids (boys 5 & 3 and a girl 6 months) are all 3rd generation Melbourne supporters.

The most rewarding thing I find is going to games with them.

I agree with most is getting them a guernsey and putting a number on the back. 3 years ago my eldest boy picked #6 as he met and came to live Bater. Unfortunately, somehow, I'm going to have to break it to him that Bater is no longer wearing number 6 and not playing for the Dees.

My younger bloke has picked 11... Nice choice if you ask me.

All my kids, including my wife are all Melbourne supporters and members. We go as many weeks as possible. The drive from Traralgon takes about 2 hours, so I get the boys excitement levels up by awarding a prize to who can see the MCG first!

Obviously wins have been far and few between, but luckily they aren't old enough to know better yet!

Best days for us are when my father comes along with us too. It's a great family day out for us!

Go Dees!

Both my girls were signed up members 2 days after they were born, the eldest 2yo, knows the demons emblem, and anytime she sees footy on TV she is like..daddy the demons are playing...they both have jumpers...and when they are old enough they will be there every week.

I dont have any kids but I signed up my dog...

When he poops on my neighbour's lawn (who goes for hawthorn) it makes it all the more satisfying :)
