WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CAMERON PEDERSEN

Wonder if this signals Collingwood think Cloke is GONE - or is it just back-up for Jolly. If its just back up for Jolly does not exactly sound like an exciting role. But it does sound like a player of interest for us - if Martin goes.

Collingwood acquiring Pederson would put a stop to any potential trade for Martin, I would think.

They might be playing "the game" - maybe we have asked too high a price - they are trying to knock us down. Suppose we will all just have to wait and see.

Surely with Melbourne seemingly going after quite a few different players, it means that we should be preparing for quite a list culling. Good signs ahead...

Whilst I wouldn't mind keeping Martin if I had to choose between Martin and Pedersen I'd probably take Pedersen. He's a reliable type who will get the job done as a back up ruck/forward.

Seems like a replacement for sellar only we haven't got rid of him.

His versatility seems very neeldish and if he did become a dee it would be interesting to see if he played back or forward.

Davey Clarke Martin

Howe Pederson Blease

Could that work?

no watts up forward?

I would imagin hime up forward, Sellar as general depth, we may be losing Rivers ect

Hold on.

"This year's 'Gillette' AFL Trade Period."

FMD.

Considering Hale left north for a high 20s pick I don't think north could demand more than that. A pick around 35-45 should be enough I would have thought.

I don't think the Pies would be targeting Pederson as a direct replacement for Cloke (if he's gone). Not to say they wouldn't be interested in him, but I would've thought they'll want a bigger fish than that as their replacement forward for Cloke.

That said, I reckon Pederson would be a top pick up for us.

So...

Melbourne give Gysberts to Geelong

Geelong give pick 35ish to North

North give pedersen to Melbourne

Obviously we don't know what compensation we will get for Moloney (possible 3rd round?), but given his contribution this year, I expect I'd be comfortable to trade the Moloney compensation pick for Pedersen, who was impressive in his first year.

Insane that North would think they could demand our 2nd round pick considering they won't even play him.

Agreed. If we want him, offer our 3rd rounder or push him into the PSD with a front-loaded price on his head.

So why don't we send Martin to Collingwood for their 2nd round pick, then send that 2nd round pick to Nth Melbourne for Pedersen???

That's probably a pretty fair trade. There's no way we would get a first round pick from Collingwood, but maybe we could get a player thrown in as well as the pick. But I reckon a 2nd round pick would be fair compensation for Martin anyways, particularly if it netted us Pedersen.

I'm with you it does sound strange from Collingwood - I suspect they are playing the game. Something just does not add up somebody is playing funny buggers.

I think it will be really interesting to see what some players are worth, in terms of the compensation handed out. There's already been some controversy following the Scully/Ward/Ablett compensation.

They should do an article on 'Who Melbourne isn't in the hunt for'

So far it seems like its no-one...

Is Pedersen really the type we want? Sounds to me like an outstanding VFL player and an ordinary AFL one. We've got loads of those players on our list already.

The guy will be 26 before next season starts, has played 16 career games, and can't get a game in a middle of the road side behind such luminaries as Robbie Tarrant.

Why would anyone think this would be a good deal, particularly as compensation for Gysberts or Martin, both of whom should be clearly inside our best 22 next year?

He may be better than what we have on our list in his position & may be able to fill a role that isn't being filled by a player on our list currently? If we gave up a 3rd rounder for example, its not going to really hurt us. A lot of younger players picked up around those picks don't make it so why not pick a player that will have some sort of impact straight away?

Davey Clarke Martin

Howe Pederson Blease

Could that work?

Not with Davey it wouldnt

I hope we can get a better small forward than Davey

Great. We give up the player we took at 11, who everyone agrees has talent and is still young, for a 25 year old VFL player who can't get into North's side and wasn't even good enough to be drafted as an 18 year old. What do we put as Sellar's value, given he played most of the games this year, is taller and was quite handy for us in a number of positions. To me Pederson is about pick 50, similar to Sellar who went at 54 despite being a top 10 pick as a junior. Gysberts would have to be somewhere between 15 and 30 given he is contracted and has tons of upside.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
