I'm not against recruiting Gumby. Gysberts for Gumby in a straight swap?

Posted

I watched I a couple of games very seceptically but liked what I saw. He is a big unit now and really surprised me with his acceleration and good kicking. I thought not bad for a bloke coming back from injury and was kicking goals.

I wouldn't mind taking the punt. His best is clearly better than Dawes but injuries make him a risk. If we threw our 4th or 5th pick at him I wouldnt mind.

Essendon of course will ask the earth for him.

Posted

So this is what the war chest is for. Sticky tape to hold Gumby's body parts together.

Sticky tape? Surely given the amount raised, we could splurge on some gaff?

Food for thought.

Lyon is no mug. He rates Gumby. Seems he thinks he'd make a handy decoy for Pav.

Freo apparently not overly concerned at Gumbies fitness (as he is NOW)

Hmmm.

Ahhhh, what does he know !

I'm warming to this idea. Be far cheaper than that filthy fellow. Wouldn't cost us 20 , tick and another tick

He's an option. We need options as we mightn't land our first choice. We keep looking though

We did well out of the last player we pinched from under Freo noses...

Gumby!

You must be joking - close to worst kick ever.

Gumby has a horrible kicking action - a bit like James Hirds. Just lets the ball drop with two hands. But his kicking efficiency is good despite how ordinary his action is.

His marking ability is amazing.

He is fit, but can it hold together?

I would trade our pick 45 for him, but I reckon the Bombers won't let him go for that. Pick 20 is probably too much for him.

Posted

Pick 20 would be ridiculous for a player that has only been offered a 1 year contract at his current club.

Posted

I don't think anyone is seriously suggesting we offer the Bummers 20

Possibly a trade or lower pick package.

It's really more about what Gumby sees as a reason to join. He is after all ooc.

Pretty good summary, I reckon. I think 45 is still a touch high for me (although I wouldn't mind us taking a punt on him). Essendon don't want him - why should they expect much more than a peppercorn for him?

Pick 20 would be absolutely ridiculous.

Pick 45 Essendon or risk him walking into the PSD where we can pick him up with pick 3 ;)

Posted

Surely picks 4 and 20 are being kept for mids

Blogger on HUN Chat this morning said that he spoke to Gumb's dad. Freo have offered a 3 year deal and he is going to take it.

Fair enough, I'd heard it mentioned a few times. Seemed crazy to me.

The Bummers are offering a 1 year contract, so we'd have to offer at least a 2 year contract you would think. A minimal risk if we can pick him up for a 3rd rounder.

WHY ???????????????????????

Gubleton gets injured getting out of bed. He is a terrible kick. Essendon offer of 1-yr is a good one for his injury riddled past.

Let Freo take him and move on.

Mark Neeld - "Quality youth and experience (preferable from a winning culture)". Gumbleton is NEITHER.

Posted

At least there looking at other options.

The age seems has reported that Cameron Pedersen Is coming to Melbourne so if we do land Cam I have no problem with getting an Injury prone Tall forward to help out till The Halk is ready.

Posted

On AFL Trade radio today, they (Barrett & Wallace) questioned Neeld's approach to Gumbleton.

They said:

1. it seems that MFC have missed the key quality expereinced players they thought they may attract.

2. Gumbleton was not on their radar and now is. Appears to be a scattergun approach to "at least get something"

3. Gumbleton and Clark are too similar, and have no ground ability . Too similar big/ruck style fwds.

I tend to agree. However 30 mins for a coffee to check the air is not a big investment given Neeld was there to meet Hogan and his family.

Gumbleton is injury proned and a big NO from me. No way. Move on. Pass. His kicking is poor.

Posted

Dawes is the key, the approach on Gumby is insurance in the case that Dawes does not come to us.

    TRAINING: Monday 20th January 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator attended training out at Casey Fields to bring you the following observations from Preseason Training. GATOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS There were 5 in the main rehab group, namely Gawn, Petracca, Fullarton, Woewodin and Lever.  Laurie was running laps by himself, as was Jefferson.  Chandler, as has been reported, had his arm in a sling.  Lindsay did a bit of lap running later on. Some of the ''rehab 5'' participated in non contact drills and b

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

    TRAINING: Monday 16th December 2024

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov
