Hang in there Ray, lifelong Demon Pal Of Mine

Featured Replies

My old schooldays and MFC mate Ray is now fighting his biggest fight at the Alfred Hospital. In childhood, we would slip off from Springvale Under 12's football games and catch the train to Richmond to see our beloved Demons play. Saturday nights we would go play pool at Rockys, or kick the football down at the park. They were the days.

Hang in there mate, I am coming up to Melbourne tomorrow night to see you.

Love from BushDemon.

I go home to Ballarat in September each year BD and sadly discover more and more friends from years gone by have either fallen off the perch or are ill. Comes with aging I know but sad nevetheless. Best wishes to your mate.

Wishing your mate all the best, amazing the bonds formed through love for a footy club.

Thanks GSmith, Ray is not an old man but he has worked hard all his life and the most passionate demons man you would ever see.

Hang in there Ray. Energy from 'land is coming your way.

You are required to be here on Earth for the 13th.

Yeah...I guess all of us who remember regular flags are starting to see a bit of that.

Hang in there.

Thoughts with you both. Some of my most cherished memories of my dad were of us sitting together in the nursing home watching the footy. It was always Carlton, as he was a lifelong Blues man, but under the circumstances, I didn't mind. Footy has a way of bringing people together.

Thanks for sharing on Demonland.

Breast Wishes Ray!

You are in good hands-we have the best health system in the entire world .

Hope to see you at the G next year.

Hei Bush D,

Cheers for the post! Surprised to see it on Demonland given not even sure if Ray's a Member? BDemon is correct. Ray lives Melbourne FC or at least he did when I last saw him some 25 years back. Loved his Pies and Beers and yes a game of Pool at Rocky's, Jolly 3 and the Swan. All Springy Haunts back in the 70's for all you Demonlanders who might be wondering who the hell is Ray??

Greats to be able to Air this sought of stuff in Demonland. All the replies are extremely heartening. OK BD am just off the plane and will catch up with Ray tomorrow in Alfred. Wouldn't be much good to him tonight.

These Posts would absolutely blow Ray over!!

Saw Ray and family tonight, they are all pulling together, Ray has surgery on Monday. All chuffed to see such great support from Demonlanders community, thanks everyone. So impressed with Alfred Hospital stuff happening everywhere, dedication to the cause on display everywhere. Ray in good spirits, best wishes to Steph and see you again soon. BD

I just got some bad news about my grandfather (pancreatic cancer), who turned me on to the Dees when I moved down to Victoria as a kid. Hopefully my grandpa and your pal Ray can both pull through and watch a Melbourne Premiership one day.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
