Up and coming dinner more so aimed at funds for high profile recruits. Anyone going or know of anyone going?

I think it may as you say indicate that charity is our only way to pay the salary cap. But I heard this is because we have pumped soo much into our footy department (probably to the irritation of Neale and Dean)

Charity?? All clubs ask their members for financial support which is used in one way or another. The money may be used to finance construction, strengthen a football department, or improve resources and facilities. I'm just glad we are in a position where we can go to such supporters who have financial clout.

This is what came to my mind also. I initially struggled with why this was even necessary as surely you have the money , how and on whom you spend it within a cap is somewhat arbitrary. I failed to see the signifcance of this Dinner for a 'Cloke" . Its does scream pauper again doesnt it.

I seemingly mistaken thought any extra money was an issue regarding non player payments.

This dinner has been held every year for the last 5 years so there's nothing sinister about it. The club want a war chest so the can match the bigger club's in attracting players.

They also want to build up on the number of foundation heroes and get it up to 1,000 it's currently about 430.

I understand this Robbie, but we can only pay the salary cap so gathering a "war chest" to attract big name players seems odd.

However, like you said there are clearly other reasons for the dinner.

$5000, and each foundation hero is invited each year to this dinner at no cost. but obviously are tempted with auctions, raffles etc to support the club.

this string of dinners has been a massive factor in the club surviving, and then getting us in the position to pay front end contracts and manage players like Clark coming to the club.

$5,000 is a one off but they do suggest that if you are in a position to do so you put in a bit more.

I spose the way I look at it is that by people contributing it means the club will have enough new to maintain the high costs of the football department we have now while being able to pay 100% of the cap.

If we are a weird club for trying to raise money, well I am happy we are a weird club!

Every club in the country tries to raise money for one reason or another so I am not sure why there should be any negative to us raising more money.

If it helps pay for players, pay for equipment, rooms, medicos etc. it can only be for the benefit of the players and in the long run we hope for the benefit of more wins!
