* The amount of journalists reporting on AFL far outweighs those reporting on Australian politics. More quantity = less quality.

* The journalists ready & willing to insert themselves into the headlines by editorializing news stories.

* Journalists making news stories based on what they or other journalists say.

* Journalists blatantly taking [censored] out of context.

* Journalists reporting on the gossip of the game & not what happens on the field. Caro being AFL-drip fed the North to the Gold Coast story in 07 & then her blatant anti-Brayshaw agenda since is a fine illustration of this.

I think the "World Series" was actually named after the newspaper that sponsored the championship in the early 1900s. It just stuck all these years and I think the Yanks secretly like the fact it sounds like baseball is all about them.

You didn't mention the despicable stadium deals that entrench clubs into the wealthy or pauper category, Geelong get 20000 to Skilled stadium and they make $500k. We get that to the MCG and write a cheque out to the AFL.

West Coast and Collingwood spend $300k A WEEK more than the Demons. That is a recipe for disaster.

And what about the fact that the AFL can't force Collingwood or Ess for that matter to wear an away strip?? (I don't count Ess's grey jumper as an away strip)

Well then perhaps go bottom 9 and top 9. Teams that are on the fringe of playing finals aren't

going to tank anyway. I would say Yes to something like this as it would stop things like tanking from

happening. Teams are still going to finish players seasons early and try young players but at

least it will take away from the idea that they are purposely tanking.

And in the NBA system the bottom ranked side still has the best chance of winning the top pick

as they have a higher number of 'chances' when drawing the draft positions. But the ability for sides

who don't finish last to still get a higher pick would mean theres no real point in actual tanking.

And in the NBA system they still have tanking. The only way a lottery would work is if the bottom 10 sides were each in the lottery with an even chance of getting the number 1 pick.

I don't think it is quite as sick as you suggest jnr.

It is financially viable

However the powerful do rule but I am not sure that anything has changed in my 50+ years of following the AFL.

My biggest complaint about the AFL is that there are too many teams.

IMO

- the talent pool is stretched to far there are not enough good players to go round eg.the MFC.

- There are always going to be 3 - 4 teams who will be easy beats that will have their seasons over in May.

- having more than 14 teams is IMO unworkable

I read one on BF where it should be based on percentage rather than ladder position - maybe for the teams outside the 8or bottom 4 only? Pretty hard for the coach/FD to try and tank large amounts of percentage.

Especially considering that the only pic they have of a St.Kilda player holding up the premiership cup is of Baldock who's wearing a Collingwood jumper.

On topic, Ladder averages, Wins to get picks if you spent x many weeks on the bottom, average over multiple seasons..... Really guys? Half the Collingwood supporter base can't count past 10 (Less for those who've lost a finger attempting check if the lawn mower blades are running). It's not going to change, will stay the same and no doubt be a topic of conversation again next year IGO (God's opinion)
