Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Gysberts = Enigma .... to date.

Was a little flash in the pan before fading and subsequent injuries.

Hasnt done a proper preseason so far (tmk)

Also Hasn't set any worlds alight. Is currently getting a game because we're running out of options as opposed to must have in side.

I think this lad will continue at the Dees in 2013 purely on the basis that the FD still dont know yet what he can or can't do.

Probably rather fortunate in that respect .

He might really become something or might be another on our pile of nqr's.

We wont know till nab time next year really .

Gysberts and Blease have both got some good attributes ..... but neither is fit enough for AFL football. Dunno if they can get there but Neeld, Misson and Craig will.

I agree with this wholeheartedly.

Currently they aren't fit enough and we have no way of knowing whether or not they ever will be fit enough to play. But the club has access to their physical testing and are experts in the area, so they'll know whether or not they have the ability to achieve AFL fitness. Whether the club chooses to keep them or move them on, I'll trust their judgement because they'll know.

I'd have thought since the club already have that information, and the players in question are in the 22, their hand has been shown..?

Don't agree.

With our injuries, we have the opportunity for guys to get games to attempt to salvage careers.

Give him a break. Clearly has talent and has had a shocker run with injury this year. May need to lift training levels but is clearly one of the major assets on our list.

Under Neeld, could develop into an A grader.

Big year for him next year.

Gotta be honest, this is the first I've heard of any preseason wrist/hand injury preventing him working on the weights.

umm and with a hand and wrist injury you pull and push on weights how ?

( have I walked head first into sarcasm?)

I think he is majorly unfit and needs to clean up his work by foot.

He needs to do a full preseason and have a decent run with injuries.

I'm not sure he will ever bulk up as many here are advocating but either did Michael Tuck and it didnt affect his career.

The major plus for him is he has a nice ability to find the ball and the ball finding him.

Possibly.

Or they might want some more concrete evidence on the positives the players bring. Can Gysberts really extract at AFL level?

Or they might be show-casing those positives to clubs in the trade market. Those Blease goals sure look purrty.

I do think the reverse of your suggestion probably applies - those players not in the 22 are on shaky ground - for example if Lucas Cook can't get a game angainst GC or GWS then there's cause for concern.

Gysberts and Blease have both got some good attributes and did some nice things yesterday, Gysberts inside and Blease outside but neither is fit enough for AFL football. Dunno if they can get there but Neeld, Misson and Craig will. If they can they'll be handy.

The other 2 10-20 picks Tapscott and Strauss are safer bets to make it at MFC. I've had my doubts about Tapscott but he was good yesterday, Strauss needs to wind up to the confidence he established before his injury and he''l be a solid player.

I agree 100% old 55 especially re fitness above.

At one stage half way through the third quarter yesterday Blease could hardly make it to the bench he was gasping for breath.

Now this is not the last quarter there was still 40% of the game to go.

Not so the likes of Bail or Howe who seem to be going as hard at the end as at the start.

No matter how good your skills you need to be fit in today's game there is nowhere to hide.

Geez some dumb dumb comments here...

Gys was good today for where he's started from this year. First game for the year and some are bagging him out?!

Pathetic.

Gysberts (omitted) - Maybe not so good...

There are a lot of weak guys at Melbourne with skinny bodies. This seems to have been the recruiting pattern. We need some bi tough guys with big strong bodies and courage and intensity for the contest.

We could try a few of the bars around Commercial Rd-can't hurt to try .

Googled 'bi tough guy' and got ...

This is the kind of desperation and intensity that we have been lacking. We need to be as keen on the spread as we are on the inside.

I think Jose meant it's the first he'd heard the Gys was injured and not doing weights pre season

Correct!

But I may have unwittingly delivered some scathing sarcasm that I'd be proud of, had I meant it...

Expect a Blease-esque late inclusion. Maybe Bail or Tapscott will have general soreness.

I don't have anything to back that up, but it just seems to be the way things have panned this year.

I see what you're saying, but I don't agree in Cook's case.

I think he's still too young and not ready -- that doesn't preclude him from ever being ready.

We'll stay the course.

Actually more surprised that Cook gets so much criticism, yet Fitzpatrick who has been on the list a year longer, seems to escape it?

As the old adage goes, once you're at the club, it doesn't matter what draft pick brought you there (to an extent).

Fitz is on more shaky ground.

I think both will be retained.

I'm not worried for Gysberts in the slightest.

He did some nice things last weekend, but clearly has not yet built up the required fitness.

The only way he'll leave the club this year is by a trade where we come out the winners.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
