Cloke and Collingwood - to part or not to part?

That Mitch Clark guy who was our best player until he got injured? Yeah I remember him, what of him?

Hes our full forward next year .

Have to admit wasn't sold early, but front ended last three years on average to decent (not excessive) coin does have plenty of pro's.

No picks to give up

Opposition coaches headache, best tall defender on Clark or Cloke

Draft mids and small forward if available

Fills a lot of holes in our list in 1 off season

Howe/Jurrah third tall

Jamar/Gawn/Martin resting forward think Meth Coast Kennedy/Lynch/Darling/Cox, Pies 2010/11 Cloke/Dawes/Brown/Jolly

Also while we need good mids Clark & Cloke would reak havoc and panic in opposition forward lines with quick deep forward kicks and they both know how to work hard and lead with purpose

If we can heavily front end the Cloke deal, with big $$$ in the first 2 Years then tapering, I'm OK with it. But Not at the expense of Boak being afforded.

No no no no no no AND no.

He's not that good.

Your right he is not that good but he is good. Good god we need some good players.

if there was ever any proof of how desperately we need someone like Cloke, how about our 55 inside 50s to Ports 45, yet we copped a thrashing. No targets up forward.

Throw the lot at this guy...

Similar inside 50 stats against the Lions at the Gabba too. We need two pillars - Clark and Cloke.

And a much better engine room.

And a few other things (but, fortunately, no longer a new coach or head of fitness).

Hes our full forward next year .

God forbid injury strikes again and then we have no one to kick to as usual....

Cant see anything in the papers referring to any offer...curious

Youd think theyd be all over this ...the vultures

They're way too busy with the Will Minson contract saga.

Can't see where Cloke has signed yet, Nor can I see the same for Boak.

What people need to realize is that if we get cloke, one of he and clark are going to get the 2nd best defender each week rather than the number 1 defender, the other play will benefit immensely and it will make our mids look a lot better with two towering targets up forward rather than the makeshift targets we have now!

This. ^^

Remember how Cloke tore Rivers a new one last year, because Chip had to go to Dawes instead? Same deal here.

Rumour going round cloke will go and will go to Carlton with malthouse on bigfooty don't think the can afford him really

Pies have just announced that Cloke's contract negotiation will now be postponed until after the season.

Interesting development. The official line is that they don't want the distraction in the run to the finals but have they been spooked by his poor run of form?

Possibly a massive misjudgement made here by the Clokes. Shoulda tied something away while his stocks were high.

It couldn't happen to a more deserving team. I can't help but get the feeling that it's Cloke Sr that is the greedy one, and Travis is just going with his father's wishes. As highly as I rate Cloke, I wouldn't want to see him at the Dees if it meant paying $800k+ for 5 years. That money could be much better invested elsewhere.

Please dont waste MFC money on Cloke he is just not worth it(IMO)

But as usual the Club will, against all sanity, have a go at getting him

I'm praying that they are not successfull. Please in gods name no!

You, like many others, fail to see why we are offering what appears to be 'overs' for Cloke.

Besides all the obvious benefits (Structure, contesting marking in forward 50 ect) , we also have to pay NOTHING TO COLLINGWOOD.

Draft picks are priceless and the fact that we have to give up none to Collingwood is the reason why we are throwing so much money into this.

If we were giving up draft picks for a standard 'trade' then their is no way teams would be throwing this type of coin at Cloke.

I hope we get him, Cloke, Viney + 2 - 3 other mids, im watering at the mouth already.

Surely Cloke isn't staying at the pies now. Where he ends up who knows? If the bombers and Carlton miss the 8 and the Pies lose the flag and Cloke at least there will be some positives from this season.

yeh ablett, ward, scully, etc all put off contract negotiations until the end of the season and then ended up leaving.

are there any recent examples of players doing this but staying at their original club?

I can't think of any. Let the games begin. It isn't cloud cover in London at the moment it's Eddie's head Boiling!

Plenty of Pies fans calling SEN absolutely filthy on Cloke for dragging this out.

Nice to see another club go through what we went through with you-know-who.

Even better that it's the Filth.

He is every chance to be boo'd by his own if he doesn't perform I reckon.

I really hope we drive the price of him up to Scully like $$ and then just say "Nah".

This would be the smart option.

He is not a patch on Clark anyway .

Cam Bruce?

Jeff Farmer?

Nathan Buckley?

Jason Akermanis?

Not 100% sure, but I think these guys protracted their talks right into October.

Dont want to be Captin obvious but some of the facts:

1. Both Dees and freo have offered Cloke big contracts with Dees offering by far the most of any club someting like 1.1 over 6-7 years

2. Pies can only offer 4 with with about 800k max.

3. Carlton have shown interest but require Murphy, Judd, Kruzer, Robinson, Gibbs, Jamison all to take pay cuts to get him there!

4. If Cloke really never had any interest in the prospect of coming to the Dees he would of signed immediatley

5, There is still the possibilty of him staying with the Pies, but history tells who wants to have something like this hanging over your head? Ablett, Scully, Ward and co let it drag on until seasons end to inform the were leaving for $$

So im guessing he is seriously thinking about the MFC offer!!!! I would too

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.
