See you later ... Bater?

Some horrible horrible posts in this thread...

Bater and Moloney are gone fo sho'

Firstly, Moloney gone for sure? Really dumb comment. Out of form and small chance he'll go, but "fo sho"? Ridiculous.

Bate has played pretty well this year, Moloney, Pettered and I dare say Bennell are ahead of him on the chopping block

Moloney, Petterd, and Bennell will be cut before Bate? Give me a spell mate, some may go in turn cos Neeld wants to improve the list but he's not dumb.

Another in a long list of duds that soaked up games, took paycheques and repaid years of faith with absolutely nothing. Meanwhile, we lose plenty of games by plenty of goals. He's not far behind Brad Miller who is at the top of this list... at least Miller wasn't a first round draft pick for Christ's sake. See ya.

C&B, that's a rubbish post bagging out a guy who has worked his a$$ off despite not being the most talented player around. Pull your head in.

not as bad as Gysberts or Cook though. Matty was good in his first year so i blame the training regime for a large part of his demise.

And WYL, well mate, you've been in fine form lately, spiraling out of control, Gysbters has shown pretty big glimpses inbetween unlucky injuries, and Cook is a KPF and we just have to cop it that we're developing him til he's cherry ripe.

I'm with WYL on Cook. I doubt he'll make it, but at best he'll be ordinary. He was a terrible pick 12. Terrible.

To think Atley was still available at our pick. Barry Prendergast must have gone to the Richard Griffiths school of drafting.

Gysberts and Cook won't make it. Doubt they will be on the list next year.

High draft picks we blew again.

Some of the worst posts I've ever read on any internet forum anywhere!

Clearly all you've seen of Cook is Youtube highlights. From someone who goes down to Casey often, I can tell you that Cook will be a very good player, the club are doing really well at making sure they build his body before he plays AFL footy, they simply don't want to put him in to early.

And the comments about Gysberts I assume you're both being stupid on purpose? The kids shown plenty in what were his first 2 seasons and has been injured all of this season so far. If you watched Casey play last week you would of seen he was one of the Best on Ground and was a huge part of the last quarter comeback.

Chr*st almight!

Wow. Doubt they will be on the list next year? I guarantee they will be.

We'll see who's right in October.

* Although i'm not sold in Cook (at all), we'll be given another year at least to prove himself before we turf him.

If he's a such a good player why isn't he dominating at Casey?

Unfortunately there's only one answer to that question - he's not that good. Certainly nowhere close to being worth what we paid for him, anyway.

It was a shocking decision to take him.

I go and watch Casey too, champ. Cook is too slow and not aggressive enough.

How about history determine the veracity of our posts ?

But do you know what annoys me ? If I made a positive and glowing remark about Cook I'd get a couple of likes, but if I call it as I see it I'm the devil, when in reality, they're both just opinions. I post what I think, not what others want to hear.

Has everyone failed to learn their lesson from watching Jack Watts? He was torn to shreds as a complete flop by most on here despite the fact that he was(still is) very young, was physically under developed and inexperienced. Yet everyone jumped on him and proclaimed he was a basket case. Now with 50 odd games under his belt, some size he is playing consitently good footy.

Yet everyone is doing the exact same thing with Cook. WYL will end up looking very stupid, which is saying something considering he already looks pretty stupid!

You mean like Jack Riewoldt was tearing it up in the VFL in his second season??? Don't recall that ever happening for the KPF who was taken early, took till about his 4th season to really come on if I recall, might have even been a similar pick to Cook?

I'm all for calling it as I see it, yet I'll call it as I see it on players who have been at the club for awhile and have had a chance to really show what they've got. There's plaenty of players on Melbourne's list that aren't up to it, but I'm not going to point the finger at a kid who hasn't finished his first contract yet or another kid who's been injured for the majority of his third season after having 2 very good years first up.

My gut feel at the moment is that Cook in the long term will prove to a(nother) poor early pick in the long run, but I'm not ready to abandon all hope yet because he's only young still and hasn't had much of a run to find good form. However if the club decides it has seen enough and shows him the door, I'd accept that as I have no choice but to trust their judgement, and it's obvious that in the past we've held on to crap players for way too long.

There is only room for one of Bate or Dunn on the list next year..

As it stands now - i choose Dunn

There's no room for either of them. These two will be the first two to be scotched, this is an absolute no brainer. Petterd will come in a close third.

Nup it makes perfect sense

Moloney is trade currency. We can actually entice another club to part with a good player for him (Boak). Bate, Petterd and Bennell we can't do that. Their currency is too low (and of those only Bate attracted interest from other clubs)

We could keep Moloney as an inside mid but Jones and Magner are ahead of him, we'll have Viney in the draft, we've got Tom Couch etc.... At his age/experience he should be the first in that list and he isn't. Plus the spell at Casey did not help. Trust me. He's gone.

Bennell over Bate? No chance. He's done his ACL, we won't see him for another 12 months and he has hardly shown anything in the games he has played whereas Bate has. Matter of fact Bate hasn't been that bad. Last weekend he wasn't great but he was far from our worst player in the previous few.

Petterd over Bate - Line ball but I'd give the nod to Bate as he is nowhere near as injury prone and Petterd has done sweet fa in two years anyway. He's got better endurance than Petterd as well, that's going to become more important given the way the game is going to change when they start capping interchange rotations.

Agreed, except on the Petterd front. Really hope we keep him and give him a decent run next year. Would much rather him as a defensive forward than Magner.

(NB- Not saying I want to ditch Magner, love the bloke, just prefer someone who can tackle, has speed, and can actually kick goals in that position)

Massive flaw in your logic mate, you say Moloney has currency so he's gone, but Bate has currency so he stays...

So, no, I don't "trust you" on your calls.

One small problem Hatchman.

Moloney is a free agent we get nothing if he leaves.

The fact that there's any argument over who is better out of Bate, Bennell, Dunn or Petterd is indicative of BH's point about forming an attachment to ordinary players. In the big picture none of these players have a role to play in our quest for glory and all should be gone at years end.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
