Trade Magner

Featured Replies

Never going to Happen just dumb,

Also Magner should not be played as FP to slow, although Neeld likes him as defensive tag in foward line i dont think it is worth it

Chuck him in the center to do the rough and tough stuff

And we will not trade him not going to happen

Lets trade Frawley I reckon.....he is worth something now and won't be in our next premiership side of 3033 so why not get some value for him...he would be worth 2-3 picks in the first and 2nd rounds....more 17/18yo's the better i say.....

Did you just change your criteria from having 'heart, hard work and ethic', to 'playing every game of the seniors exept one?' as your argument to keeping Magner?

Did you want to add anything else to this criteria before I bother responding or will you just change it again when i do.

I am sure the list management team has a criteria that they need to follow in terms of balancing it. Not perfect but as close to as possible that they could probably have gotten it.

Criteria...i've said nothing of criteria. I think keeping Magner, who's showed a willingness to work for years and years just to get a chance, then make his way into an afl list and then play just about every game for the season needs to be kept. You're the one who brought up Lawrence, who struggles to play casey reserves. = chalk and cheese.

So what you're saying is that if we bring in 4 mids we need to get rid of 4 mids. Our midfield is our weakness. Bring in the best mids we can and get rid of the players who don't perform, whatever position they play.

Just like people who thought drafting Junior Mac were deluded?

GWS would jump on a player like Magner. Good body, low cost and has quite a few years in him.

So GWS should get him because they have only kids and not much else...

Mark Neeld says 'what the frack do you think the problem is with our list?'

Having a balance is important. We see teams get caught out all the time when they don't have one. Look at Carlton who have no fit KPF.

They're kicking it to Betts!

I don't like it when people get bagged just for starting a thread but this one is so undeserving of consideration I'd make an exception this time.

Here are 2 options for making room on our list, one includes Magner. (Ignoring Green as he is on Vets list)

Option 1

Delist - Bennell, Lawrence, Spencer, Petterd

Option 2

Delist - Lawrence, Spencer, Petterd, Bennell

Trade - Magner,

Option 1 we keep Magner

Option 2 we end up keeping Evans, and upgrading a pick

List management may think that Evans could be a better fit going forward, though no other teams are willing to take him and we get to upgrade a pick.

With a scenario like this it makes it worth looking at.

Keep Magner, Delist Evans

Trade Magner, keep Evans and get a pick upgrade.

NO NO NO NO

Thats just going Backwards trading Frawley

You win Flags with a good backline i dont care what you would get for him

GWS would jump on a player like Magner. Good body, low cost and has quite a few years in him.

McDonald suffered chronic fatigue and missed a lot of junior football. He then went on to dominate amateur football for Old Xavs as a 19 year old and was subsequently drafted. He was an immensely junior talented player and Melbourne were extremely lucky that at the time he was drafted Neil Balme had several friends who were on the coaching staff at the Old Xavs who assisted in getting him and Andrew Leoncelli across to the Dees.

Magner is a 24 year old who was in the VFL system for 6 years before being rookied. His determination to never give up is no doubt admirable but to suggest that his path of getting to AFL is anything like that of James McDonald or that they are similar players is extremely misguided.

Why would GWS go for Magner when they have Steve Clifton on their list??? And not to mention an abundance of other more talented midfielders?

I'm sorry but they are nothing alike

With this i agree with you with Carlton at least.

At melbourne, we need to get rid of players like Bate who are inbetweeners and bring in pure midfielders. Oh and another genuine KPF would also be handy.

I see Magner as being an inbetweener. His not quite as effective as Jones as an aggresive Mid, though at the same time is not quite as good as Mckenzie as a tagger.

I just think he has value though we wont take a big hit on losing him.

Bate, Dunn, Bennell ect are in the pure delist pile.

2nd round draft pick - giggle ( unless you are Carlton perhaps)

Neeld wants mature bodies from what I have seen and heard.

We have discussed this in thread after thread but I can see us picking up kids with 3, 4, 13, 30 and that is it.

We need a thread for trade bait. I am keen to see who people think should be put on the table outside of those with no value like the Bates, Bennells and Petterds.

I honestly think that Magner is a good player who has value and we can do without. I am keen to see what players other posters think realisticly other teams would be interested in without us taking to much of a hit.

Neeld loves him.

Didn't he say something in a DeeTV draft discussion something about Melbourne needing more grunt? That he would put his faith in a grunt stopping Dane Swan on a queens birthday Monday? Didn't refer to his name, but was talking about a late pick or rookie selection. Was pretty clear that it was Magner and perhaps Couch.

Every other team could have drafted Magner before us if they wanted to, and they didn't.

Trading or keeping Magner is the least of our worries, I personally couldnt care either way.

I think so long as the club does the right thing by Magner.

If his opportunties are limitied, be upfront, let him know and maybe he'd prefer to try his luck elsewhere.

He has been a great a pick up for us, can certainly play, would be a good fit for GC, GWS, St Kilda.

school holidays?

I've just looked into this thread. I honestly thought it was a joke like the Jack Watts threads from a month or so back. When it got to 4 pages I thought it must be getting pretty funny.

Unfortunately it is real, but fortunately it's seriousness is painful funny.

Up next - the Trade Mitch Clark thread (he'd have value in the market, and he's done nothing for us the last few weeks)

Can we trade you?

Sloonie is right you've not done yourself any favours with this thread Olisik

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
