Who do we keep?

No offence, Biffen but this thread isn't "who should we keep?"

It's "who do we think is a very good player or looks like being a very good player."

So that's misleading...

I would keep all but about 7 or 8 going into 2013. I know Misson is going to help a few boys get more out of their bodies and I want to see our talented kids stick around because Melbourne is a club that will get the most out of themselves. Never before have I been so bullish about the off-field developments at the club. Misson and Craig will get us playing with the big boys in a couple years.

I predict 10-12 delistings.

My source didn't give me a number but he used the words "ruthless and brutal"and nodded after most names I mentioned.

It gives me no pleasure to pass this on but be prepared to see the new broom come out .

I reckon there are 10-12 guys we could name to go but no more than 18 to 20 that we should keep .

Remember that I love the club and I love some of the players that wil go -but do you really think Neeld is a nurturer?

We employed Neeld because he is very difficult to F&ck with .

You are completely out of touch with reality if you think we'll delist 12 players. Your so-called source was just humouring you. Which gun mega star junior player do you reckon we'll take with our 12th round draft pick Biff? Bearing in mind it will have been completely pillaged by the 5th.

Agree Nasher I will be surprised if it is more than 5 changes.

There is a basic item at play here.

You have to replace players you de list with ones that are better.

Imagining you will come up with 12 players better than the 12 you de list is folly.

We probably need 12 better players but sadly it is going to take more than one year.

Three years would be my guess.

I think green will stay, if his on 100k on veteran list then his not really costing a spot and does not need to be removed in a hurry.

After the weekend we can see that he still clearly has allot more to offer as a forward then many of our other potential forwards.

Bring out the broom and cleaning agents. A dozen new faces..good. Our list is so far behind the rest of the AFL & we have already bottomed out 5 years ago...brilliant isn't it!!

I think the warm weather is getting to you wyl

I have a similar 5 year pain but

There will not be 12 changes in a pink fit.

Bearing in mind the two compo picks plus rookie promotions (if any) plus free agents plus trades we don't need to go to the 12th round to pick up 12 players.

Would seem to be difficult to get 12 new ones on the list, even if you wanted to. 3 Rookies plus 1/2 dozen normal draft pickes. Where do you get the other three from?

We'd be on our own by the 8th round anyway, so that is immaterial. 12 delistings is still far too many.

But there has got to be, or should be.

You know how bad we are OD.

9th round if u include players being added to the vets list

Yes I agree we are pretty poor but there will not be more than 5 or 6 at the max. changes in one year .

Unfortunately it is going to take 2 -3 years to change a number of players

Ok, we can look at it backwards if we want to:

We will take 3, 4, 13, 30 and 50 in the draft.

We might get a free agent.

We might upgrade Nicholson (2nd year rookie) and Magner (1st year rookie).

So that is 8 places on the list to find.

If you would like to get another FA by all means - go ahead, but if we are looking at getting Pick 65, 80, and 90 to replace the 'fringe' players 'clogging up our list' we are kidding ourselves; they will be even more speculative than the players they are replacing.

(And Jamar and Rivers might both be on the VL next year if Green retires, so that is another couple of 'cloggers' that might be kept...)

Note: I use the term 'cloggers' and 'fringe' players in inverted commas as I have seen Bail and Martin mentioned as 'cloggers' but I do not see them as such.

10-12 is appropriate in my reality .

I cant see Neeld persisting with mediocrities happy to sit on a list .

My so-called source has no need to humour me.I'm humourous enough.

Hoping you're the same .

Is there any restrictions to amount of players who can be on veteran list?

You didnt include the PSD in the above.

In the old CBA it was two. I believe that is the same with the payment changing from 'half of the wage of the two vets (or third of three vets, etc.)' to '$100k off all eligible vets.'

So Vets List = 2 but Vets Eligible = anyone who meets criteria of Veteran.

Confusing I know.

As for the PSD...

Don't know if relevant anymore.

Simply because it would normally be a place for the Dunns, and Bates or similar but now they can go whereever they feel under FA. So the PSD might have a couple young OOC players but they might go into the National Draft anyway to have a better chance of Luke Balling © their way to their preferred club.

Dont forget mature players like Magner!

That's the RL though. Not the primary list.

Having said that I would definitely look at Pick 50ish and even Pick 30ish for the Sellars and Magners of this world.

I left Judy off because I doubt he would be a walk up start at another club. l like Judy alot but he leaves me weeping at times.

Silly comment.

Garland would be a walk up start at Carlton, and Hawthorn, and several other clubs crying out for a versatile defender.

He is a very good footballer. Not a superstar, but a solid, dependable player with great leadership qualities.

That's why he got a 3 year deal.

I agree with you on Tappy and Strauss although they have to iron out inconsistencies.

Sellar has been OK but he doesn't really float my boat .

Yeah Sellar is just handy to have around I think. Has showed a bit as a back, has the size to ruck if needed, and may even turn it around and find his form up forward.

He won't be a regular 22 guy I would think, but will be one of our utility depth players that we call upon when needed.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
