Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Established players - who are we targeting?

Pretty sure about this; read it in a few places - one link.

I think MFC is paying 100% of TPP in 2012 by heavily front loading some contracts with younger players. They have done this to get salary room to go after established players (including those in free agency).

Boak would have to be a target; not sure about who else. And I guess Cloke, though IMO $1m is too much for any 1 player - carlton's list lacks depth because of it (and paying overs for others eg $400k Warnock and McLean).

Thoughts?

James Hawkesly Bris

Chris Knights Adel

Tyson Goldsack Coll

David Myers Ess

Jarred Bouman Hawks

Scott Thompson Norf

Matt Spangher Swans

These are guys that would flll roles for us and would not be costly. Mostly hard bodies that could fit in right away.

I reckon we are dreaming if we thing we can land a number of big fish. We need to trade/recruit realistic ready made payers that fill gaps for us. Goldsack for mine would be a great get.

Travis Boak: Port Adelaide

Shannon Byrnes: Geelong

Travis Cloke: Collingwood

Lachlan Hansen: North Melbourne

Farren Ray: St Kilda

Jordan Russell: Carlton

Matthew White: Richmond

Jesse White: Sydney

They're some of the blokes that I'd be looking at. Byrnes and Boak top of my list!

I look at that list and see a couple of quality players and a bunch of 1st round draft picks who did SFA to justify their selection

I reckon the blokes you're referring to (Russell, Ray & Hansen I assume) are all good role players, but have that stigma of being top draft picks.

Hansen's probably been the biggest underachiever out of the three, but he's constantly been moved from forward to back to forward. I reckon if we put him in and left him at CHF he'd become a valuable player for our structure and help Clark out a lot.

Two very good players. Don't think they're as getable as the others though.

Chris Knights is an interesting one. 2007-2009 he was looking like he was on his way to becoming a real top-liner. Was getting a lot of the ball, used it well, and always kicked a couple of goals. Has stagnated for whatever reason the last few years. He will be 26 next year, so should still have 4 or 5 years left of half decent footy.

Possibly. But 1st rounders who move clubs and come good usually go to a decent club where they can be role players. We don't need role players. We've got essentially a blank canvas.

Hansen's an interesting one. No idea about his contract, but doubt he'd go anywhere purely because no club would value him anywhere what North would want. Bit like us - we wouldn't trade Morton for a 3rd rounder because that would be an admission we made a mess of a pick 4 (though that draft is looker weaker all the time)

Jarred Bouman Hawks

This one confuses me, he was serviceable at VFL level and has shown absolutely nothing in his opportunities at AFL level.

Boumann was just one of many untried mature-aged KPD's. Makes a lot more sense to find our own instead of giving up something to the Hawks for a player that hasn't done anything.

Dayne Beams

Sharrod Wellingham

Koby Stevens

Daniel Archer (STK)

Dempster (STK) Free Agent

Can't believe I forgot to mention him myself!

Agree, reckon he'd be a great get for us, and certainly achievable. Also David Ellard from Carlton is someone who I think would eb a good get for us.

He's 23 (I think), 30 odd games experience, a quick crumbing forward who can rotate through the midfield but can't crack a regular game because of Betts & Garlett. Would be a good fit IMO.

Pick 13 and a player for Boak . Like BH has suggested , it will need to be a player that Port will see fair value in . The Coach and crew should be in the best position to judge which player .

Or to get Boak we give Port picks 4 and 13 in exchange for pick 7 - kudos to whoever suggested this idea (this option may be more appealing if . by then , Viney as slipped through to the 2nd round.)

In the 2nd scenario we could end up with Boak , Viney , pick 3 and pick 7 . Not too shabby . And that's not counting who we might snare out of the 'Free Agents' that are available . In an ideal world we secure Cloke and Sewell as free agents and we could use picks 3 and 7 on midfielders in the National Draft .

That would give us 5 new midfielders to get the ball down to Cloke and Clark . A lot can happen at seasons end and we need to be a major player .

Ellard, Stevens and Byrnes are prob the most 'gettable' that would fill our need for speedy outside types.

As much as boak and beams would be top of the wish list I think that they'll remain just that

Best and most realistic player mentioned yet.

Ellard is having a good year, sneaking under the guard of a lot of sides - Ive been watching him for a while now.

Well picked there.

Aww shux you're making me blush...

No point saying we can trade Dunn bate and spencer to collingwood for Wellington and beams

We do have a good history with Carlton trades, Brock McLean for jordan gysberts was mutually beneficial (now that McLean has played a couple of good games)

They might be interested in a pick 30something and a Morton/ stef martin deal

Would hate to see Martin go but with the emergence of fitzy and gawn as genuine heirs to jamar and Clark able to do the secondary ruck role I can see him getting starved of opportunities in coming years and think that this year has taught Carlton a valuable lesson in needing depth of mobile big men. Kreuzer will go back to their genuine number 1 ruck and hampson and warlock are to one dimensional

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
