Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Trent West & Mitch Clark

I put this in the pay it forward thread but believe it deserves a thread of its own.

I believe Trent West is a forward playing as a ruckman - just as Mitch Clark was at Brisbane.

IMO he would compliment Clark better than Cloke and probably around half the price too. Also the perfect age profile for us.

I believe that the power forward of the future will need more strings to his bow ala Clark & West. Good in an arial contest, good at ground level and agility etc.

Power forward 'lumps' like Dawes etc will be too one dimensional for the game as it evolves.

I also believe he is OOC with Geelong and non committal regarding another contract.

He's a ruckman who can pinch hit forward. Mitch Clark was a forward who was forced to ruck due to injury.

We have Jamar on a three year deal with Gawn, Fitzpatrick for development. End of.

Wrong and wrong.

Brisbane always believed Clark was a ruckman who could pinch hit forward. It was Neeld and co. who thought he was more suited to a forward role.

If you look at the youtube clips you might change your thoughts on West as a pinch hitting forward. He has the goods to compliment Clark perfectly.

Hardly "End Of."

This could work really well. Fitzy and Spencer are developing but may not make it, and I love Gawn, but after two knee recos he's a bit of a gamble.

I love the idea of Jamar in the ruck, Clark at FF, and West alternating between forward and back up ruck, it would leave Clark as a full time forward which would be invaluable to our setup.

Surely the one thing we learned from the weekend was we need more depth players and less development players?

I'm not opposed to the idea...

GEELONG ruckman Trent West's contract talks are at an impasse, with his manager yesterday revealing interest from rival clubs. - 5th June 2012

GEELONG has taken another significant step towards ensuring its premiership window remains open by locking away Tom Hawkins.

West's manager Anthony McConville and Geelong have discussed a new deal for the premiership ruckman but remain at odds over the size of a new deal.

McConville said West, 24, wanted to stay, but conceded there was interest in the out-of-contract big man.

On Sunday, Greater Western Sydney coach Kevin Sheedy declared the Giants' priority was finding another ruckman.

It is known that there is a considerable gap between the offer the Cats have tabled for West and what would keep the 198cm ruckman at Geelong.

GWS has contacted the management of several ruckmen, and St Kilda and Collingwood are also short of ruck stocks.

In April, Geelong football manager Neil Balme took the extraordinary step of asking GWS if the Giants had approached West.

They told Balme they had not, but McConville said West was definitely in demand.

"There is an amount of rival interest in Trent, being the player he is as a modern-day ruckman," McConville said.

"The question will be what his value is at Geelong going forward. That's what we need to work out.

"Trent is pretty keen to focus on his footy for the remainder of the year. But if Geelong are wanting to bring forward discussions, we would be happy to talk to Neil (Balme) and the club."

McConville would not confirm GWS interest.

West has struggled at times this year after making an impact from Round 17 in 2011, with Geelong believing the demands of playing first ruck have tired him.

I've been watching him very closely now for the last couple of years. He can take a terrific contested mark but just doesn't get enough stats. Agree he is probably not a first ruck, more of a pinch hitter, but not sure why we need another one of those. Think we would be better off chasing anojther genuine #1 ruck.

Brisbane were right re Clarke, he's both.

I am open to your idea re West, or others.

But we need players who aren't like Lambs... who've got some GO in them...

Again - hardly "end of" - the general point that key forwards are getting big and mobile is well made. Tippett, Buddy, Patton and Vickery are examples in the 198 cm zone. Jamar isnt that big in the scheme of things. I think we should perservere with Martin who did alright against Brisbane.

Its actually complement not compliment as in this wine complements the food whereas you might pay your host a compliment.

Don't know much about Trent West as a player, so it's hard for me to comment on whether he is worthwhile recruiting or not. I like your thinking though, it's a bit outside the norm so points for that. I'd prefer the club concentrated on building an elite midfield first as it's number 1 priority & then draft for a Ruck or KPF when the time to challenge for a flag arrives. In the mean time we can draft & develop key position players hoping that one will develop into what we need. IMO the most important thing the club needs to address in this draft is the type of player we are aiming to recruit in terms of skills, elite mentality & physical attributes.

Good pick up. These things happen when you try to type at 100mph. :P

Seems to be a decent footballer but can he kicks goals as CHF permanently or was his finals performance in that position in the 2011 finals series a fluke. No one knows exactly except Geelong. Could be a handy pick up but from what it seems wants some coin which seems rather unwarranted for a man in his position. But anyway, seems like a half decent target.

West....

I like your thinking. I'm yet to decide if I agree or disagree.

But at least it is a well thought out OP with supporting argument on the trading scenarios.

na not for me.

i reckon Stef Martin could be as damaging as Trent West with continued game time

his athleticism is amazing - he just cant kick! which is an issue - but he could be anything

and our fwd line needs to be mobile and trent west is not the man,

also - have you given up on Jurrah?

our fwd line will hopefully in 2013 consist of Clark,Jurrah, Garland,Martin, Tapscott and NEW SMALL FWD

after watching the TOP 30 draft picks go around in last few weeks, i dont think we should be giving a draft pick up.

Martin would be better than West.

West isnt all that good, Ive watched him close enough to know that he isnt a forward,

not now and not ever.

Stef Martin isnt a forward either, Jamar used to be a good forwardline option

before he came scared to kick the footy (2012)

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
