Title says it all. Bombers will be unveiling their new clash strip on the weekend against the 'Aints.

Wonder if it means we will get a home game against them now????

Number one - I don't see how this is a clash strip. It is still a red sash with a dark alternate colour.

Number two - I think this will clash with the Saints jumper even more so than their usual jumper (given that it keeps the red and then blends the two other St Kilda colours together).

that was my initial thoughts too HG. Nothing said in article re AFL's approval/disapproval

p.s. how bad does dorks away strip look

I can't believe that "the team of the red and the blue" has to have a strip with white in it.

Was looking at the Port Melbouren strip on the weekend and thinking it would make a great away strip I.e red and blue stripes...

spot on 45. i dont understand why we were made to get one with white in it when clearly we didnt need to. why cant we have something like carltons jumper with a really pale blue instead of the navy blue?

I'm still shaking my head at last weeks game of Fremantle v Essendon at Patterson's. Freo had to wear their clash gear.

Is it just me, or has the AFL lost their marbles in respect to clash guernsey's and AFL umpire colour clashes with teams ?

I can't believe how precious some supporters are about club colours.

It Borders on pathetic.

All clubs should be required to have clearly dark and light strips to avoi clashes, like in the NBA, the EPL and various other top level sporting leagues.

It's not rocket science, and it does nothing to dilute the club's brand, despite what some would like you to think.

If as a club all you stand for are your colours, then you don't stand for much at all.

Because that would look disgusting - just like Carlton's does now.

Which forms part of my point with respect to Fremantle at home.

And if the AFL are serious about light and dark, then what the fcuk was going on with Syd v GWS ? Who is light who is dark ? Orange back v red back. Ridiculously inconsistent.

It's not rocket science, and it does nothing to dilute the club's brand, despite what some would like you to think.

If its not rocket *surgery* wtf can't they get my two points right. Then there's the stuff ups with the umpire colours.

It's more than just about colours Jose. It's about common sense !

well i don't give a flying f*** what other clubs do. I just want to see my mfc always in the red and blue (no white)

If it was just a question of common sense then i wouldn't be supporting the demons

you have no idea of emotion tradition passion and loyalty....it's not something you can bottle hose

Come on DC tell the truth you secretly like the white one now.

It's just that you cannot admit it after all these years of complain.

Come out of the closet mate you are among friends

This isn't so much about Dark vs. Light - It didn't seem to be too hard to distinguish between Red and Orange on the Weekend. It's about CLASH.

And boy, the Essenscum are a bunch of whiners. The MFC clash jumper was, until last year, a disgrace. Not because it wasn't Red and Blue - but because it wasn't a Melbourne Jumper...The current clash strip is a Melbourne jumper. Plain and simple the Dons supporters should be pleased with what was achieved - i.e. it's still an EFC jumper.

I think the colour on the initial pics was a touch dark, but subsequent pics have shown it to be a lighter shade of grey - looks to be ok. Why they can't wear white is beyond me though.

nope, it's like you and the number seven

the current white clash jumper is just better than past attempts that's all

if any one has colours similar to us it is without question essendung and if they get away without white i will be spitting chips

The problem with clash strips is the inconsistency in how the rule is enforced. That is a blight on the AFL - I have respect for the teams who have resisted complying.

If anyone saw the Adelaide Richmond game on the weekend, could they tell me if they had the same problem I had with the clash of the strips. I am 100% in the 'every team should have a clearly different light or dark clash jumper' camp.

Posted (edited)

Never, ever, had a problem identifying which team was which - when white shorts for away was the rule.

As always, the AFL make the rules up as they go along.

There are times I turn on the tv/stream/etc these days and don't know who's playing, or where (ie who is home). So I turn it off.

Edit: and Meh. The current clash is not a Melbourne jumper. It's a Sydney jumper with blue side panels.

I agree. Enforce it for everyone or nobody. Essendon getting away with this for so long is pure BS.

What about reversing the colors?

Red jumper with blue V?

Only a suggestion.

nothing wrong with it in principle but Dimwit says NO. AFL have declared red a dark colour

if AFL allows Essendung this new jumper they are declaring mid-grey a light colour....go figure

So virtually all other clubs have been forced, sorry the "small/new clubs" have been forced to have clash jumpers for how long now but Caro thinks it's a disgrace the Dons are now falling into line in some small way... Even if she has a point it annoys me no end it takes the Dons change to get her fired up when the rest of the comp has been doing pushed on it for years now.

I am young and have, as far as I know, good eye sight, so if there is the odd game that I find difficult to distinguish teams from one another, especially with the mass of bodies around the ball these days, then I am sure there are many older viewers or others with poorer vision or even people who just have smaller older tvs who are having great difficulty distinguishing.

In my line of work, and most lines of work, accessibility is a key goal, which means to make the work usable by as many people as possible, which generally refers to those with disabilities of some sort, and I see no reason why the AFL is any different. And if wearing a light jumper 3 or 4 times a year ensures that, then is it really that bad.

If done properly can be a great marketing ploy by the club. There is a reason EPL clubs bring out vastly different away strips pretty much every season, and that is because fans lap it up.

I'm petitioning for away teams to be "skins," that'll sort out this colour debate once and for all.

But seriously, who gives a shite.
