Can someone explain to me again the benefits for footballers or any professional sportspeople in having twitter accounts? We've had two NBA players given death threats via twitter in the recent playoffs and I'm sure if scully had an account that's all he'd receive (justifiably). I can't see why anyone would willingly invite lunatics to abuse them online.

I've heard this morning that Greg Swan spent 8 hours not rolling over to the AFL's strong request of suspending McLean for a game. I must say that I admire that greatly.

What would Melbourne have done ? I have zero doubt that in the same circumstances they would have acceded to the AFL's wishes and there would have been a different outcome.

I totally agree. If you're an athlete and can't handle being heckled without resorting to churlish retorts, then don't sign up for Twitter. If you don't have the willpower to resist, then suck it up or face the consequences. I have little sympathy for McLean.

Actually one of my preferred footballers on Twitter, at least he doesn't spout the same old NBA, FIFA, 'Get around him yeeewww' crap that the others do.

yeh i agree, the standard stuff said by players on twitter is pretty boring:

just ate a great burger on chapel street

lebron james is a champ
