Not happy with the final team. Davey and Joel Mac in the side, Blease and Davis as emergencies. We have two older players who are very limited in what they can do getting a game over two young players with the potential to be far more. On top of that, when will we have a better opportunity to debut Davis? Surely this is a game where he will be reasonably comfortable with his ability to hold his own with whoever we play him on? A huge opportunity thrown away here.

Rather than tanking as some have suggested, the final squad is about using our maturity and experience over their obvious lack thereof.

If you read today's Age interview with Neeld, it's clear he sees a fit Davey as a big part of the future. In the interview he says Davey's series of three interrupted preseasons has eroded his fitness level and this year is about rebuilding it.

Final Side - In: Bail, Bate, Davey, Macdonald. Out: Green, Tapscott, Blease, Morton,

With those ins, you could be excused for thinking we are going for an almighty tank this week.

Agreed i though we had seen the last of Davey Bate worth a go in the wet Bail hasnt gone on with it showed promise butchers the ball under pressure slow thinker

McDonald shouldnt be dropped until some one with more skills who gives 100% is available

DIGGING DEEP by Whispering Jack

...

What puzzles me is the GWS decision to omit Chad Cornes who routinely stars against Melbourne and whose form this year had been widely acknowledged as one of the reasons why his team has been so competitive. Last week he had 23 touches against Richmond and whilst not as prolific against Geelong in the game before that, his contribution was significant. In his team's only win this year, Cornes had 28 possessions, took 12 marks and was easily best on the ground. It's hard to believe that he's been rested for this game on this ground and in the heavy conditions anticipated for Sunday. I wouldn't be surprised if this was yet another Sheedy ploy and a late change will see Cornes running out for the game.

Good get.

I couldn't believe my ears even I heard that Cornes was being rested and I agree this is your typical Kevin Sheedy shifty move.

If he doesn't play then it's probably due to an injury that GWS doesn't want to disclose.

This is a disappointing post about a player that brought a great deal to the club from 2004 to 2010.

The disappointing aspect is that Davey has earned this criticism over the last couple of years.

Not certain what you are saying? How could you possibly think this is earned?:

RPFC are you watching ?

you reckon Davey deserves a game As I said Im not belittling his contribution to the club over the years

At this point he gives zero

I hope he is subbed for Blease very soon

I cannot believe that anybody reckons he is up to standard absolutely no impact

This post is a good lesson for people:

Wait for the game to finish before you use it as evidence for your preconceived notions...

Davey is a proud Demon who has been terribly out of form but is fighting to give what he can.

Watched the whole game didnt change my mind just get rid of him totally useless

Again a good example to us all to seek the evidence and act

keeping serial underperformers week in week out is how the MFC arrived at the bottom and some people just seem to think that is ok

Bailey used to pat this guy on the bum after pityfull performances no wonder he cant play the game when it gets hard

Doesnt actually think he has to in my opinion and the footy department has done him no favours my accepting weak perfomances

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi
