Why can't we try Bennell as a spread mid who can be given the ball and take off. He can do that from wing or in the middle. We need to inject clearance pace to improve our forward entries.

I really don't think he'd be any more of a success as a "Spread Mid" than he has been as a "Spread Flanker".

The saints have a young rookie named Minchington who has been playing for Sandringham seniors quite regularly. I've known his family for most of my life, played a variety of sports against his brothers, and was really looking forward to seeing the kid play. Wouldn't you know it, he's strained a groin muscle and is going to miss this week.

I don't think any of his older brothers got that far, but there are a few of them, so I could be wrong.

MELBOURNE youngster James Strauss will return from a serious leg injury tomorrow when Casey clashes with Sandringham at Trevor Barker Oval.

The 22-year-old suffered a compound fracture of his left leg in the Demons' 76-point loss to Carlton in Round 20 last season.

"I'm pretty good at the moment," Strauss said after the incident.

"I suppose I've just got to try to keep positive and, hopefully, I'll get back to footy as quick as possible."
