Your favourite "line"

This was on SEN this morning so I thought it would be a good one to borrow.

I'll get the ball rolling by going back in time to a sensational half back linefrom the early 70's

Davis - Hardeman - Sullivan

Frank Davis was dour tight defender and Sullivan had that little bit of flair. Hardeman was sensational He made the All Australian team in 1972 but they selected him at CHF because Peter Knights had a lock on the CHB position. Amazingly he was only 187cm.

I am a bit younger than you I think so mine would be something like Farmer, Neitz and Robbo. All great to watch and all great players.

Sedat Sir - Justin Charles - James Manson

Wasn't the greatest line, but put the fear in to most, and put doubt in the minds of our American tourists whether they should come and see a game of Ausie Rules.

How's this for a centre line. Johnson, Wilson and Flower.

Top shelf, but I reckon Brian Dixon, Hassa Mann and Bluey Adams would give them a run for their money.

You have warmed my heart with that Deeoldfart.

Great days!

I probably have this all wrong as my memory of the 60's is very cloudy (yes, I really was there), but I had the feeling Dixon, Alves and Bourke made up a centre line at one point (although on checking Wiki, there is no mention of Bourke ever taking a wing possy - just forward and back)... but if such a centre line did exist, and in my own mind I'm pretty certain it did, then that for me was it!

You are testing my memory but I do not remember Bourke ever playing across the centre line.

You're probably right OD... so I'm wondering who was on the other wing. Dixon still stands out in my mind as one of the greatest ever to play that position.

I cannot remember hardtack

I would have thought Brian Dixon would have been gone by the time Alves started.

Without looking up records I thought they were from two different eras.

Alves was a 70's player and Dixon would have been gone by then I think.

There may have been a small cross over but I doubt it.

But I would not bet on that.

No doubt someone with a better memory of the time will straighten it out.

PS Up Date Alves started in 1965 so there was probably a couple of years that they played together.

Jakovich....Schwartz.....Lyon....

It cant be beaten IMO other than previous eras who won flags maybe which I was not born for..Even then they didnt have one of the

fastest goal machines ever in Jako.

Freak & Star & Class all in one forward line. Pretty sure it was 94.

I can remember the players - but cant remember that line - all three boys on the full forward line

We had two great lines, one after the other back in 98'.

HF: Lyon, Schwarz, Robertson

FF: Smith, Neitz, Farmer

OUT- Smith

I remember reading an article during the Daniher era with the headline The Bagmen.

We had the most forwards in the league who had kicked 5 or more goals in a game.

And still we could not bag a flag!

Flower , Wells , Alves was a very good line .

Very undemon like this

Bluey McKenna, Glen Jakovich, John Worsfold

Half back line that was just awesome, very very solid, hard straight line runners loved watching those 3 back in the 90's. Played most of my footy at half back/ on ball tried to emulate Bluey, woosha and T Viney - Hard boys that our current crop needs to watch play

Another reason why throwing the kitchen sink at Cloke is the wrong plan given we already have Clarke. But i digress from another thread...

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
