I just watched the replay,it's been so long since we had 22 contributors. The usual suspects always get bagged every week but tonight every player played their role.

Watts back and Garlo forward, great move and there will be times when they switch to give us versatility.

We are crying out for a small forward,we have no-one crumbing the packs, maybe it's Davey's only role left, parking himself under Mitch's hands and not leaving the F50.

Simply not quick enough anymore ... and lacks that hungry/annoying goal sense.

Certainly a big hole in our list and we may have to have a red hot crack with pick 12 to get a decent small forward in.

Enjoy the win boys, and all the Demonland folks. I gotta say I've been critical of Neeld but he did a great job tonight. I was so happy for him at the siren because you began to understand the pressure he was under. Good to see Don give him a big hug in the rooms too.

Grimesy was a real leader in that last quarter. Watts was good. Col Garland up forward was inspired. Beamer and Sylvia tried really hard without a lot of reward.

Best of all we played like a team.

That song of ours is alright isn't it? ;-)

Just loved the way Sylvia barged his way through the pack with brute strength and booted a ripper goal.

It was ugly and tough, but it was so effin sweet!

I'd watch that every week if it meant winning. Stuff stylish football. If you win games, you win games. That's all that matters.

Just LOLed at that one and woke the girlfriend. Thanks a lot daisycutter. ;)

Do you have any idea what you are talking about RR? This game was played very much more freely - more of an open, running anywhere contest, not stoppages around the boundary line etc ., etc. ...

Even the commentators could see that!

What? No, it wasn't. It was a hard slog. Every time (unless there was a free player in space, in the corridor) we played along the boundary. Just about every kick out was directed at Sellar, Jamar or someone else creating a contest 60 out and fisting it out of bounds. We then went about demolishing them at the stoppages. That's how the game was won. Did you actually watch it? The Neeld game plan has never been more evident than tonight and finally every player executed it.

If you're gonna beat one team (that's not Collingwood)...

Amazing... Great day at the football. Every bit the memorable night that the Freo game in 2008 was.

Nope. Midfielders, midfielders, midfielders...and maybe another KPF. :P

I believe we should address the small forward issue once the most important area of the ground is addressed - the midfield. If LJ ever plays again, he could still become that brilliant crumber, with an ability to take a mark above his head. He needs to lift his work rate and buy into Neeld's philosophy and we could have a genuinely exciting, A grade forwardline. Jesus, how quickly do things look up?

More so, I reckon. Watching the Essendon people going despair was hilarious.

You're right there but I heard somewhere this draft pool doesn't run as deep as was earlier believed.

I'm happy for us to take best three mids available with 3,4 and 12 and then pick for needs thereafter.

Had a close look at Boak today on cable TV versus the Blues. Good player but not convinced he is worth selling the farm for.

Hartlett on the other hand is something special.

"put your hand up if you cried"

hand well and truely up... i hate essendon, more that the filth across the park in collingwood.

Not sure if we answered the questions that reamin long term tonight, but will bloody take the win, no doubts about that!!!

Happy to bag out essendon anytime, but if you shut down stanton and 50% of watson and get decent ruck usuage. you beat the bombers, all day every day

Who cried?

Go on, fess up...

I did.

I didn't cry at the end, but when Garland came charging out of the goal square and took that mark (I think it may have been the kick he shanked?), my hands were shaking and I nearly cried then because my brain did not know how to cope with the surge of emotion coming. Fuck, what a great feeling. I'm still high 11 hours later (after possibly the worst sleep I've ever had). I love footy.

Yeah good call - I saw Spencil and Martin looking pretty smug in the stands as well. The papers will be all over it.

I saw the shot of the rooms while the "offline" boys waited for the players to arrive. Gysberts and Spencer were grinning like they'd eaten all the hash cookies. Disgrace! :D

The look on my son's face in the rooms after the match will stay with my for a very long time.

This is what it's all about Blinky. This is why we endure the pain.

There is nothing better in this life, either as a player or as a staunch club supporter, than hearing the changeroom walls rattle as the boys belt out the song after a fighting win.

Enjoyed seeing Grimes take some centre square bounces. Amazing that Tom Mac has been taking the most dangerous forwards and doing well. Rivers and Nicholson played well. I reckon our skills picked up in the last in relation to our confidence.

This game will do wonders to the confidence of our playing group.

Couldn't be more right.......the skills of a team with confidence and self belief just instantaneously jump notches. I have been harsh with Dan Nicholson this year because of his foot disposal. This is my public about face on him. This kid is a nugget of the highest order, gutsy, quick, and does so many inspiring little things. How did I not know his kicking would improve? Well done Nicho.

Dan, I reckon I'd take out the "not Collingwood" caveat. Essendon are #1 on my list of favourites to beat. I just _love_ watching the way their whole world collapses when we beat them. Footy turns me in to such a sadistic bastard.

Agree entirely, it was good contested footy, but there were no complicated plans - that's why it worked! My reference to free flowing was meant to mean the players were free to follow their natural instincts, which is also good.

Perhaps someone at MFC is listening at last.

What absolute self-serving rubbish. Ignore all evidence to the contrary and decide that they listened to you. How important you must be. That's it - the players were allowed to play rather than finally deciding as a group to put in. Yep. That's it.

Hey guys! As good as the win was last night, it was only the Entree!

Main course comes tomorrow week, and it's my favourite meal of all -- Magpie Stew!

I can taste it already!!

(Where DID all those scoffers disappear to all of a sudden...?? LOL)

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
