Demonland Player of the Year - Round 10

Featured Replies

6 - Watts - very impressive

5 - Jones - contested ball was great

4 - Grimes - was good all night and used the ball well

3 - Rivers - top game and was steady and cool when the heat was on

2 - Garland - presented very well , lost his man a few times in a very clever way . Looked at home in the fwd line - big surprise for me .

1 - Trengove - a late fist deep in the last qtr one of his many highlights .

Special mentions to Nicholson (pace) , Jamar (tireless) , Howe (possessions), McDonald (maturing) , Moloney (better) , Sellar (solid) and Tapscott (tough) . Sylvia's goal turned the game and Joel Macdonald had a good game .

6- Garland: Suited so well as a forward tonight, and of course kicked those two fantastic goals. Will he become a permanent forward? He certainly has capabilities. Underrated as a defender but after tonight he is now recognised as a very good player at the club. His phone will be buzzing all night.

5- Jones: His toughness is outstanding, his clearance work and run seems to be getting better and better. Great banana goal, seriously what an amazing player Jones is

4- Watts: Was worried when I saw him 1-on-1 with Watson late in the game but he did awesome. His skills are looking good. Definitely played a better semi-loose defender role than Fletcher at the other end.

3- Grimes- Best game of the year. Run off half back and through the middle. Dare I say- Played like a captain

2- Rivers: Another fantastic game in defence, he has been surprisingly good this year

1-Sellar: Looked very comfortable in defence and beat Ryder in some contests and kept him from being a threat inside 50. Also had a fair bit of the footy

Few others such as Nicholson, Tapscott, Trengove, Moloney and Sylvia are worth mentioning (the latter two have been much maligned but showed real heart and contestual class

6- D. Nicholson. The complete game in my eyes, especially his efforts in the last where he backed his

pace and constantly sprinted past his opponents around the boundary line.

5. T.McDonald. What a find! Stripping Alwyn Davey a highlight!

4. J.Rivers. Destroyed them last year, ditto last night!

3. J. Watts. Great reading of the play, the kid can play and was not even sweating when ling

interviewed him after the game.

2 J. Grimes. Unbelievable handling of the ball on a slippery surface at crucial times.

1. Rest of the team! Super effort!

6- Watts

5- Jones

4- Rivers

3- Garland

2- Grimes

1- Mcdonald

6. Jones

- 6 Jackie - Gone missing

-5 Hardnut - dont have the humility to admit when you got it wrong and then try and take credit when it goes right?

-4 David King - What was that David 'I have no idea' King?

-3 Leigh Matthews - what was that he said about Jack Watts? Did he look like a number 1 draft pick tonight?

-2 Tony Shaw - Go run into some more trees you irrelevant smurf

-1 Essendon supporter who told me at the ground before the game he would be the only one leaving with a smile on his face!

+6 Mark Neeld - A man who stands by his convictions, believes in himself and is delivering

+ 5 Jack Watts - What a player

+4 Rivers

+3 Grimesy

+2 Garland

+1 Jones

4. Grimes

3. Jones

2. Garland

1.Moloney

6- Watts

5- Jones

4- Nicholson

3- Garland

2- Mcdonald

1- Grimes

Though Nicho played a very attacking style and really liked his leadership in encouraging his team mates.

This is hard.

6 - Grimes (thought his clearance work was freaking unbelievable. Why has he not been in the midfield before this week? Amazing. His best MFC game I would say)

5 - Garland

4 - Jones

3 - Nicholson

2 - Watts

1 - Sellar (WTF. Where did that game come from? Did not think he had that kind of ability in him. Wasted as a forward/ruck, but as a defender he shined last night. He added some skill to his ever-present enthusiasm, and he turned in probably his best game ever. Pleasantly surprised).

6. Jones

5. Rivers

4. Watts

3. Grimes

2. Garland

1. Jamar (I thought he was the best ruckman out there against two who have done pretty well all year. We won the clearances. It can't just have been luck)

6. Rivers

5, Grimes

4. Watts

3. Jones

2. Garland

1. Jamar

- 6 Jackie - Gone missing

-5 Hardnut - dont have the humility to admit when you got it wrong and then try and take credit when it goes right?

What say we lay off other MFC members just for a little while? I think we're all pretty happy with how things went last night and I'd prefer we left the reaming each other for next time we get smashed.

SO DIFFICULT NOW

6. Jones

5. Garland

4. Rivers

3. Watts

2. Grimes

1. Nicholson

Apologies to everyone except Green (wasn't great), Dunn (as the sub) and Blease (as the red vest)

6 T.McDonald (giant mancrush, 19.8 ys old, pick 53, superstar)

5 Watts (ave. 27 touches the last 3 games!)

4 Beamer (thats better mate)

3 Rivers (so far its his best season in the R+B)

2 Nicholson (gee I've never rated this guy but he was great last night)

1 Jones (as usual)

Magner

Garland

Howe

Tapscott (so exciting)

i really must have a crush on Tom McD, judging by how few votes he has gotten, i thought he was great

As for votes, I found this unbelievably hard

6. Grimes. Played in the guts and absolutely relished it. Perfect 10/10 for mine, I couldn't have been happier with his game. Still getting shivers.

5. Rivers. Has hardly put a foot wrong all year under some seriously intense pressure.

4. Watts. Neeld said he's not playing loose man (from TV it's hard to tell most of the time), he just has the time and smarts to end up on his own a lot. If that's the case then his performance down there was exceptional. Loved it in the last quarter when he was all that stood between Watson and the goals and he won the contest, and his use of the ball back there is excellent. As others have said in other threads, I want so badly for him to deliver on what he was born with and if that's in the back half that's absolutely fine with me.

3. Jones. Enough said.

2. Nicholson. Used his pace to great effect defensively and surprised me by being a genuine offensive threat. Disposal was fine on the night. Was shattered that he was robbed of that goal; it would've capped off an all round excellent game.

1. Garland. Watching him charge out of the goalsquare for that mark on the lead in the last (the one he shanked I think) was the most spine tingling moment of the match and I can't believe I'm only giving him 1. Could easily have kicked 5 in the last quarter - as it was it was his scores were the winning ones.

So many players I feel I've jipped here too.

6 - Jones - Stock standard. Gun.

5 - Watts - Got a lot of Harry Taylor about him as a defender I reckon. Love it.

4 - Rivers - Mr. Reliable.

3 - Garlo - Col forward, Jack back. Perfect.

2 - Grimes - Midfielder!

1 - Nicho - Said pre season he would struggle for a spot. Disposal isn't the best but he uses his pace and gives 100%. Gets him a game in my team any day.

Stiff - Everyone.

6. Rivers. Take my hat off to him. He has got angry and is marking everything

5. Garland. Match winner, natural forward.

4. Grimes. Led the way, as did Trengrove

3. Watts. Composed CHB

2. Jones. Engineroom

1. Hird. 1 Point for his posing in the 3rd quarter on boundary line. Only matched by his effort in last game when he stayed out on the ground for the cameras kicking with his kids.

Rivers

Watts

Garland

Jones

Grimes

Nicholson

1 vote to Paddy Rider for crying as he walked off, Jetta for staging and the Essendon fan who said, Fark I felt sick when I woke up this morning......

4. Grimes. Led the way, as did Trengrove

come off it mate. Everyone looks better when we win but JT was abysmal last night again. Did a few good things but generally coughed it up when he used it

He has got angry and is marking everything

interesting point isn't it, he seems to have a real bit of pr!ck about him this year that wasn't there before. Maybe so many years of losing, combined with a realisation he is setting the tone for the younger lads, he is breathing fire lately and it is brilliant to see.

Rivers

Watts

Jones

Nicholson

Grimes

McDonald

Sellar a close 7th

Our backs were awesome last night. They held and bumped and grabbed, while not giving away free kicks all night. They walked a fine line the entire match. If just one of them didn't hold their own, it would have been a very different result.

come off it mate. Everyone looks better when we win but JT was abysmal last night again. Did a few good things but generally coughed it up when he used it

Can't agree with this. He was a lot better than the first 9 weeks. Made some mistakes still, sure, but he was far more urgent, speedy and present than he has been. 'Abysmal' is not even close to describing his game.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
