Development Over Time

Meanwhile the CEO was presenting "Whiteboard Wednesday" for us all.

The Club should collectively hang its head in shame and apologize to the rank & file member who has financially supported this club in the last 5 years.

Until G. Lyon stormed in the doors last August it is obvious the entire organization had no idea about elite fitness mind or body.

I love the way the Crows have bounced back. Yes they were stale. But Neil Craig had them fit as.

Craig was a great recruitment.

And if they did(apologise) .....Would you be a happier man??????.......It is now and the future we have to worry about and learn from past mistakes......

As I posted somewhere else, this is the first time in decades that I believe there is a coherent plan which will develop the team. Previously there may have been a lack of resources but I had no sense that there was a coordinated approach which would combine gameplan, fitness and personnel. Now I can see (metaphorically) the development occurring. Changing the gameplan, fitness and personnel takes time, but I feel much happier with what looks to me to be a plan for the future being implemented now.

All i am saying Boss is that there were serious mistakes made right down the line until G Lyon walked in the door. That is not to say he fixed all the problems, but at least they were confronted by all.

Our CEO may well have been reporting player development in good faith to the members. But the reality was that it was not happening. Blame must be shared.

Good post and I agree with you to a large extent

I think that for once, we got a brutally honest assessment from Neeld, Misson and Craig when they came in

I was shocked about what they said regarding where our fitness was at (I knew it was not great, but their assessment was damning beyond my belief)

I do not want to wallow in the past at all. But until the entire club actually does learn, and not just talk about it the club will not move forward.

We the paying member can only hope that this time (last summer) the right structures were put in place, because in 2008 we were informed that all was set, it clearly wasn't by a long shot.

Spot on.

How the list could be assessed as so far behind the entire comp after 4 years of player development is beyond belief.

The good thing is that Neeld Misson & Craig were so honest and are still on board knowing the enomity of the challenge.

I hope these 3 guys are allowed to change whatever they see fit without obstruction to get the job done.

Yes. As long as the learning is done. That is my only point. Maybe i am older than you, not sure. I have read assurances from the MFC before. This time i want it to work. Seeing our number one draft pick walk without even saying goodbye was the last kick in the guts i will cop.

I am actually satisfied to see that Morton since starting to play this year has actually improved as he has had more game time, and gained in confidence. Sure he was not great to start with, but it looks like he has the confidence of the coaches, and a role to play.

You could add Cook, and Gysberts to your list above of players that need time to adjust and build toward the appropriate body shape for the role that Neeld and the football department need from these players.

.... I almost put Tapscott in too, but couldnt' keep from smiling (although perhaps in all honesty, all our younger players will be "sculpted" to what is required.)

I don't know if his game has improved much, but So Far, his Intensity is better.

He LOOKS more willing. Thats a small start in the right direction.

And Bennell seems to be, by reports, responding to the Selection Sword.... schools out on these boys... we'll know more by Years End.

W have a long list of inexperienced players who may become part of a good team. Next years draft and preseason is the most important for a long long time. More years like the last 5 and we'll have less than 30,000 members and a list of players ready to leave.

I agree. Those that speak of more tanking and more draft picks are way off the mark. To fill the northern side of the 'G we need wins, and must trade aggressively for that to have any chance. Otherwise people are just not going to turn up. I can feel the vibe in the stands.

I'll have to admit I'm yet to attend a game. I couldn't make the season opener nor the Stynes tribute game but after seeing most MCG games over the last 6 years I'd prefer to spend time with the family. I am however quietly optimistic that the current coaching panel can turn us into a strong combative football team. Team being the operative word.

Neeld rightly or wrongly won't have the same latitude as Bailey given to him by Melbourne supporters. He's going to have to deal with dissatisfaction from not only his tenure but lingering bitterness from the Bailey fiasco. We've won 31 out of our last 125 including 1 from our last 13.

It's understandable that the natives are restless.

I agree with this although can remember many 5 year plans being presented. Without adequate resources an often conflicting approaches to failure these plans were reviewed every 3 years so there was never any completion.

I think the time frame is shorter than we acknowledge and I like you do still feel confident that there is some coherent coordinated approach with adequate resources.

Bump.

This article gives a better indication of how Misson fits in and the work the players are being asked to do.

I agree rpfc, and with it, increased confidence that it's all part of a long term plan that will leave us in good shape to ultimately be successful.

    TRAINING: Wednesday 19th February 2025

Demonlander The Analyser was the sole Trackwatcher out at Casey Fields today to bring you the following observations from this mornings preseason training session. Training  was at Casey today. It consisted of a match simulation for one half  and then a free choice activity time. Activities included kicking for goal,  aerial , contest work etc. I noticed the following players not in match simulation Jack Viney  running laps and looks fine for round one . I think Kolt looks like he’s im

    TRAINING: Wednesday 12th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

    TRAINING: Wednesday 5th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
