Updated Demonland Banner

I will be taking a look at the banner over the weekend and see what can be done. I have just moved offices over the past few days and will be moving house next week so time has been short. I realise that I won't be able to make everyone happy and I've learnt over the years that pleasing everyone is just not possible.

One small issue is that the template used for Demonland is a variable width template which means it adjusts to the screen width of the device being used.

The player image part of the banner is approx. 900 pixels wide, and if you veiw DL on an iphone or ipad which has a screen width of 1024 pixels, Beamer only just appears.

Unless Grimes replaces an existing player eg Beamer or JW and instead is simply added at the end (as DD has done), he will not appear on the aforementioned devices.

My suggestion would be to replace JW with JG. DD may also notice that players on the RHS of the banner face left, so I'd think there would be a better image of Jack available.

I would hope that Demonland is not going to be designed based on the size limitations of a hand held device

By all means make some small allowances or provide alternate mappings for such devices but lets not make such devices a limiting design consideration

daisycutter, I design websites. You have to cater for the 'lowest common denominator' when it comes to screen sizes, which is 1024 pixels 9wide).

The Demonland site uses a variable width template (unlike most websites), so that the banner adjusts to the resolution of the device, but if the player images extended beyond 1024 pixels then they would not all be in view on ipads, iphones and older computers.

More and more people are veiwing sites on portable devices (iphones and ipads) and it's best if a website cater for this.

Prior to Andy doing a massive amount of work in upgrading the template last October, the DL site looked ordinary on portable devices. You could not see the 'sign in' box for example.

That's my opinion.

Understand M9, I did say some allowances could be made

But if a hand held device gets a truncated graphic banner - big deal. I don't see why other devices should suffer

By all means make allowances for critical 'must see' stuff and input areas but also keep it in perspective

and thats my 2c worth

What about if Andy designs a banner for the new iMac 27" screen (2560 pixels wide)? That way we could accommodate all 39 players!

haha like it

I setup three side by side 24 inch Sun monitors for a sunblade desktop a few years ago where you could have fit the foundation heros in as well ;-)

that's hardly new M9, the apple 2560pixel monitor has been around for a while

but....now you're being silly (and alienating the rookies :) )

Just on the mobile device vs desktop thing - Demonland uses a completely separate skin for mobile devices, one that is cut down to the bone to cater for the miniscule screens. By other than that M9's right - you do still need to cater for the lowest denominator for desktop resolutions.

The last software upgrade improved the mobile skin considerably - I find it to be very usable, even on my not very user friendly phone. I'm pretty sure the banner doesn't appear on the mobile version at all (or if it does, it's scaled or something - I've never noticed a dodgy, truncated looking banner on there).

How dare you have a life away from this site Andy. Shame on you. I would remove all except the two skips, Neeld, Stynes and B&F winner Moloney. You should only be there if you are the skip, the coach, win the B&F or make the AA squad. You therefore earn the right to be there rather than get their by popular opinion.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
