I thought that was meant to be one of Craig's roles? Oversees and mentors Neeld?

It is.

BTW, been surprised to see from training reports how actively Craig is involved in day-to-day training. I thought he was going to be behind the scenes/a desk most of the time, but he's certainly not afraid to get his hands dirty. Great to see.

Do you guys think that Malthouse may assist Neeld and be a background mentor and provide him with ideas/game plans/tips ect this year?

Maybe it depends on who you think is Neelds biggest influence on what he's become as a coach, Malthouse or Blight?

Question: # Where was Malthouse prior to Neeld taking his assisting role? #And where did Neeld formulate his main strategies? # Was it Neeld who made Malthouse?

Going on an early interview when Neeld was first appointed he said that he still catches up with Malcolm Blight (his first coach) whenever he (Blight) is in town and they talk football, he is a mentor and I think you will find Mick is the same. Neeld comes across as a smart man and if he has access to 2 great football brains in Blight and Malthouse I'm sure he will use them. These are not contrived mentors as the Bailey/Mathews thing came across but the real thing, they have a past and have built a relationship.

I'm of the belief that getting Craig was a real coup for our club. Be interesting to know if he has a match day role.

Spot on rjay. Neeld & Malthouse will have a chat for sure. They won a flag together. You cannot buy that.

Neeld would be crazy not to speak to Mick at times, but personally despite Malthouse being responsible for a quality refinement in the way modern footy was played that helped enormously with Collingwoods flag I wouldn't consult him too much on gameplan. The game plan is for Neeld and his assistants to master. I'd be more interested to talk to Mick on man management and leadership. Wherever he went he got players supporting him and playing tough footy. I'd like to know how. Because even if we aren't too flash this year if we are actually having a dip it will be a big step forward for this group.
