Can totally understand this decision, but definitely feel like we'll need an injection of heart and soulf from somewhere...

Thanks Jimmy and all the best.

The Heart and Soul has to start coming from our onfield performances rather than an off field person. We have enough good people around the club off field, it is up to our footy department to drive this club forward.

Thank you for saving my club Jim. All our thoughts and prayers are with you as you beat this sickness.

Whatever is best for Jim is all that really counts.

We've run out of superlatives to describe this great man and what he has achieved for our club.

Definietly time to put his own health ahead of the club. It is now time for the club to repay the tremendous amount of time, energy, and passion Jim has given the club, particularly considering the battles he has had to take on.

Quick - get the fire extinguisher for TimD's stake.
There's a fundamental difference between Jimmy standing down voluntarily and what TimD originally suggested. He also modified his position after reflecting on it.

No need for extinguishers - just congratulations to the bloke who inspires us all and did save the club with the help of many generous supporters.

It's doubtful words could express the gratitude I, and I assume most of us, feel towards Sir Jim for what he's done for this Club.

All the best Jimma, just get better.

Certainly an individual who the MFC owe so much to for putting his time and efforts in re-generating our once vibrant and successful club!

Let's hope he gets to see and enjoy the fruits of his labour!

Good luck Jimma! Hope to see him at the G plenty this season!

Good on you Jimmy, you remain one of the greats of this football club. Thanks.

A terribly sad way for him to finish his official role at the club, but he will always be a part of the MFC. What he has done for us since the minute he pulled on a red and blue jumper, until now, will never be forgotten or replicated.

I wish him all the very best in his recovery efforts!

Place won't be the same without you big legend! Really sad he won't be heading us up next year, but his health is far more important!! Get well Jimmy, keep fighting!

As many have written, without Jim's strength, beleif and determination, we wouldn't be supporting the Melbourne Football Club as we know it. And it's becuase of these qualities that has ensured he celebrated another festive season with his family, and I hope there are many more.

While Jim was instrumental in ensuring the survival of this Club, he formed a quality group of indians of which I'm sure our next chief will continue on from where Jimmy left.

A lot of football clubs of all levels still have the "Most Courageous Award", surely we will have the Jim Stynes Award for such a title at the Club. It's an award EVERY player should strive to have their name engraved on. I know there is the Jim Stynes medal, but Jimmy is the Melbourne Football Club, and always will be.

Can't really put into words Jim how much it means to me that you grabbed the club by the scruff of the neck and played the most pivotal role in getting us to where we are today. I thank you for giving me a club that my children and hopefully grandchildren can follow.

You have done all you can for the club and now it's your time to look after yourself and the family, but Jimmy I want to see you wearing red and blue at the G in Round 1.

Again from one Irishman to another Thank you
