Wow, 3 captains and Scully couldn't get a gig, does anyone actually know why?

I wonder if he is regretting his decision already.

I could think of 7.2 millions reasons why he wouldn't be. Further, 2 million of those apply to this year.

Can't have someone who puts self before team as captain!

I'm getting the impression that Scully is too inward-focussed to be considered as a captain. He seems to be totally focussed on his own training and getting the best out of himself and not at all on what's happening with the rest of his team. That is a great attitude in a footballer, but a terrible one for a leader. It may also help insulate him from the disaster that is unfolding around him in the next few years.

He probably demanded a pay rise for the extra responsibility and they refused.

Nah, he and his dad had the choice of either $on be captain or his dad be chief organiser at the Pancake Marquee at the local GW$ Family Day. Collectively they chose the latter.

Family comes first I guess.

Haha! The pancake Marquee at the GW$ family day!! I can see it so well!!

Nah, he said "for $6M bucks you don't expect me to captain as well do you? What do you take me for?"

Dr Turf today on SEN had a little dig suggesting that Phil Scully could be part of the leadership group.

Underrated is Dr Turf.

He's a mad Demon too isn't he? Luckily for us we don't get SEN in Qld, but I love watching Turfy on Friday NIght moonee Valley race nights on TVN, very entertaining.

Because he is not a leader's a$$hole?!

Couldn't be simpler could it?

A committed trainer, no doubt, but has demonstrated through actions he would Captiain more like Schettino than Barrassi.

Ox mentioned that last night too. Mind you, Dr.Turf probably sent him the material by text.

I don't know what's more detrimental to the organisation- Scully captain or daddy Sculls in charge of the cake stall. They'd need AFL handouts just to keep the pancake marquee afloat!

There are a number of reasons why I would like the season to commence. However, top of the list is that we might all forget about the Scully family.

After all that has been said and written I cannot believe this latest thread has 7 pages and 261 comments ( including 1 from me ).

Can we please forget this ex player and get on with talk about the MFC?

I swear I will say nothing more about him this side of June.

Am I the only one in this band or will others take the pledge?

Unfortunately Turfy has left TVN. I used to enjoy the banter between him, Richo and Terry Bailey.

Really? Bloody hell, when did that happen??!! He never rated Richo's comments, always felt sorry for Richo actually, especially considering how much of a terrible tipster Turfy is!

It won't go away during the season, it will just not be the only source of entertainment when there is footy.

A lot of us will be watching how he goes and hoping he proves to be a rich B grade player. He may not play for MFC anymore, but he lied and hurt a lot of supporters (if not the players) so you have to expect interest, mostly malevolent.

Happened about a month ago I believe. He's been slagging off management at every opportunity andbagging TVN over twitter quite regularly.

I pledge to bag the living daylights out of him at every single opportunity until the day either he or I die.

I too would like the season to start, mainly to see how our guys go with some genuine direction and discipline, and fitness, but also to see just how GW$, $heedy, and T$ $uffer, and to see DumbItriou make excuses for them week by week.

The Irishman tells the HUN today that $cully is as good as Ju$$.

Tom Scully just like Chris Judd, says Setanta O'hAilpin

Let's hope not.

Is better or will be better than Judd? One is definitely not, the other we just hope not!!!

Besides he'd want to be good, because apparently he needs to get the ball to Falou so he can kick his 40+ goals this season :) !!!

Setanta is right in saying that both Judd and Scully adopt a very professional approach to the way they train and how they apply themselves to their game and, of course, they're both highly paid footballers.

But the similarity doesn't just end there. The circumstances under which Judd found himself at Carlton were clouded by claims in some circles that there had been deception in the way he offered himself for interview with four Victorian clubs (including Melbourne) before deciding on Carlton. Later, it was suggested that the Blues had already secured their player before this charade had taken place. Further, Carlton got away with having a sponsorship deal with Visy included in Judd's remuneration outside the salary cap meaning that the other clubs bidding for his services would never really have had the opportunity to compete for the player.

Similarly, the stench of deception will forever surround the Scully name whenever it's discussed in football circles in the future. That's his historical legacy.

The Voldemort deception went deeper than that of Judd but the connection will always be there as far as I'm concerned.

I might add that there are some differences. Judd has served two clubs with distinction, won a premiership and a Brownlow at the first, another Brownlow at the second, captained both of his clubs and he doesn't have a dodgy knee.

And not only was Judd at the Eagles long enough for them to get a reasonable return from him, they also got equitable recompense for him in a trade.

(I'm not bitter!)

My wife is expecting in May - better tie her legs together..

Ha! It's a bit late Billy if your worried it may be like the Skunk in May.

Maybe you should have tied her legs together earlier? Don't you know you shouldn't plan things for the footy season, LoL?

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator attended training out at Casey Fields to bring you the following observations from Preseason Training. GATOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS There were 5 in the main rehab group, namely Gawn, Petracca, Fullarton, Woewodin and Lever.  Laurie was running laps by himself, as was Jefferson.  Chandler, as has been reported, had his arm in a sling.  Lindsay did a bit of lap running later on. There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan.
