I didn't know about Dad's offer: Scully

TOM Scully says he was unaware his father had been offered a job at Greater Western Sydney until after he officially joined the club.
The Herald Sun this month published a letter of offer to Phil Scully, dated November 2010.
Yesterday AFL chief Andrew Demetriou said it was a "stroke of genius" to lure Scully Sr and Jr to the Giants.
"It was after I was signed to the Giants that he was offered a deal. As you know the rest is history," Scully said.

Really?

This is what Victorian Clubs are up against now 'landers....The whole filthy deal...sanctioned as a stroke of Genius by the Fat Controller himself.

Quite incredible how the mind of a white collar psychopath works.....but we got one.

Proof is in the above.

OK, I admit it. I was wrong on this issue. It's becoming more and more obvious that Tom had, if not signed, then made the decision to change teams before this season had started. I backed him in all year on the assumption that someone with his reported good character would not be capable of playing such a dishonest game. To those who called it, my apologies and well done on picking it early.

What Tom is saying is that the offer was made to Phil after Tom signed.

If the offer was made to Phil in November 2010 then Tom signed before then.

What a tangled web ...

Andrew Demetriou says hi. & congratulations, well done !!!

I was at the wharf hotel after the St Kilda game at Docklands. Jamar, scully and Trengove came after the game to be interviewed etc. Jamar and Trengove stayed around later mixing with the supporters which was great. I spotted scully scurrying away like a little mouse directly after being interviewed and I remember thinking then that the bloke seemed to be disconnected from the club in some way.

Anyway after that I was reasonably sure he was going.

You've got nothing to apologise for , Ralphius . In the end we all lost .

The people who thought he was "gone" early haven't won in any way . I was one of them and I don't feel like I've got had a victory in any way .

Don't feel bad Ralph, not even the biggest cynics would have thought it would have been this filthy in its dealings....i wish somebody had..

Leaving aside Scully's comments which are reflective of his lack of maturity and his naievity, Demetriou's statement is a complete disgrace and unbecoming of a CEO of what should be the most prestigious organisation in Australian sport. Truly appalling.

I agree. Even if it were a stroke of genius, I don't think it's his place to comment on stuff like this.

EDIT: Was/were. Yes, I am a grammar Nazi - even to my own posts.

Of all the journalists and all the football administrators in the land there is not one man with the cohunas to stand up and expose the shameful collusion between the AFL and GWS and the connivance of those involved in the Scully Scandal but there is one woman who today does make a statement - A Giant miscue lost in the crowd

Caroline Wilson. I salute you!

Caroline Wilson is spot on

"It also hardly requires ''genius'' to sign a footballer on the ridiculous sum that Scully will earn to play football."

I would add the MFC tried to sign Scully since the the start of 2010 - We signed 3 first year player then including Trengove.

I think he was never part of MFC, who knows, maybe he was already contacted by GWS then, or at least, he was interested in the money he thought he could make with the introduction of the 2 new clubs!!

We have to stoop to their level if we don't raid this shambles in 2 years time we wont have performed our jobs properly.

2 years to find the weak links 2 years to steal their top end youth we must put these amateurs to the sword.

Spot on.

All Demetriou has done here is make himself look the fool.

Everyone can see right through his "stroke of genius" statement.

Caro is, as she usually is when it comes to off-field issues, on the money.

What concerns me is why the MFC have remained silent?

I just think if this was the filth player Eddie would be making noise!

I know it want change anything but at least show some anger!

Or the cojones (pro: co-ho-knees) for that matter, Jack.

A fine article which had me reading extracts aloud to the family and the dog.

Finally a footy journo says it like it is. Well done Caro. She is a main reason I like Footy classified as well.

Each time $cully opens his mouth he does far more harm to himself and GWS than the Dees could ever hope to achieve. We could possibly escape with issuing some small statements but at the moment we stand head and shoulders above him/them. If we speak, our message could in the minds of people who don't watch these things closely just wrongly end up bundled into the same basket of mistrust that GWS live in.

Its all of that and EXPECTED. This has been a con job from day one. Some of us intimated this was likely to be the case a vvery long time ago.. We called it conspiracy etc . It just seemed the likely method operandi should the League be determined to apply force majeur.

Im not surprised one iota. Its a 3 ringed circus with an AFL ring masater in every event. Vlad runs the league, hes effectively choreographing the puppets at GWS , he runs the system that provides the players , he runs the method of allocating the players. So why is anyone really or truly surprised to realise that there was always a back game in motion ?

Years back the clubs relinquished effective control of their environment...this is the result.

Totally agree here.

Best to bide our time and then raid them of the homesick boys in a couple of years...in the meantime signing Pattons Dad as a bootstudder.

Check out the body language on the new recruits. They all appear to be looking for the nearest exit.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.
