Collingwood and Malthouse have come to an agreement and severed ties from any contractual arrangement, leaving Mick Malthouse free to coach in 2013.

Given the Blues have agreed to re-sign Ratten, and the Saints look like appointing a new coach, Dimma Hardwick could well be under the pump in 2012 to keep on coaching at Tigerland in 2013 and beyond.

Could it be that Mick return to one of his former clubs in Richmond ? I think he'll be itching at the thought of the challenge to resurrect the Tigers.

If Dimmer doesn't get the Toigers up next year and Malthouse does in fact take a years hiatus, there's your answer. 2013 will see him at Richmond.

He's said it still feels like home when he goes back to Tigerland.

Mick has said, even since Saturday, that he still is a Tiger at heart. Think the writing is on the wall in bloody big letters for Dimma.

Depending on how next year goes for Hardwick, he would have to be one of the stiffest coaches ever to lose his job at this stage. I really rate the way this guy coaches. I think he is their first good coach in many years.

I don't disagree Choko, but footy is a harsh mistress. He has a pretty decent list, and I don't think it is unfair for the powers that be at Richmond to expect some involvement in September. Now if that doesn't happen, and a former Tiger such as MM is a free agent, I won't discount the relatively high probability that discussions will take place. Doesn't mean I agree with it. Just that I feel that is the way footy goes these days.

Tigers will need to make the 8.

Carlton will need to make top 4.

Both tough asks ...

Bring on the speculation!

Does he really have the hunger?

I think he did well at the pies (in the last two years) because he wanted to shove it up Eddie & Bux.

Without that, what's he got to prove? Why climb the mountain all over again?

I'm glad we have Neeld and not Malthouse.

To me, this thread is more about the fact that we secretly hope that the Tigers fail next year because it would kill us all to come to the realization that they will have passed us on the rebuild.

If another club/coach is under the pump, it means we are not. It sucked this year being that club, so I understand the want for that heat to be on another club that we are competing with to get into the eight.

Am I off the mark with my reading of this?

Not really. :)

Speculating on Mick's future. That said, if Richmond don't make much improvement on their performances in 2011 - we all know that unrest could be just around the corner and only one Caroline Wilson article away from heat on Hardwick and her club. And one take from KB imploring the Tigers to ask Mick.

As much as it might fly in the face of other posters we are even in development. Our defence is way above theirs however their forward line is ahead of ours but then again offence gets you memberships, defence gets you premierships I will back us against them over the long haul.

But exciting times and rivalry ahead for both clubs, but in their defence Cotchin will be an absolute gun don't see much ATM splitting Trengove & Martin huge upside both ways

Richmond's midfield 'first' group is superb right now, and makes them a lot more competitive all over the ground. Our excellent defence was constantly under the pump and our high-potential forward line has been starved of chances.

I would say we are ahead in overall development, but with a current weakness in the area that makes the most visible difference.

Hardwick is the Richmond coach - if he's not under the pump they've just won a premiership. So it follows... he'll always be under the pump... because he coaches Richmond.

Oh, are you referring to the Tiger fighting fund... Could be. I agree, all 3 clubs will chase him, if he has not signed ahead, to one of them.

MM reiterated today that he will never coach again.

Hardwick will be given an extension before the 2012 season gets under way.

He has done IMO a very good job, Tigers were a lot better than the Dees is 2011.

I am not sure what is so good about Hardwick. He was going to look good by turning up for the job after the Wallet disaster. Richmond have not made great strides from where they were even with "the free kick" of picking a plug in gun like Martin. The Tigers top 6 are good. But it falls away after that. They still have the legacy of a lack of list talent following the failed Wallet years.

He was always taking a dangerous job in the TIgers and he needs like any coach to provide hope to the Board and supporters.

I lost all respect for him as a coach after he completely ignored his team's worst performance for the year. Imagine if we had done that!

The Dee's will be all over Tiges next season. The comparison between Dee's & Tiges will be no more. Dee's will be streaks ahead.

I hope we play them twice!

Hardwick will have a nervous season.
