Jimmy Mac to play for GWS

Featured Replies

This guy - spyandsource - has been tweeting rubbish for ages. I think he got 1 trade out of about 100 tweets right on trade week last year. This isn't going to happen. Coach maybe, player no. Theres already Cornes, Brogran, Power on offer and a lot of guys in the VFL going around.

Don't really see it happening with the likes of Power, Ward, Scully and Palmer already on offer in the midfield. But best of luck to him if it's legit.

My Mum works as a check-out chic at Coles, Doncaster, and she said Isaac Weetra's mum told her he was going to Sydney tomorrow to have a look at their facilities. Apparently a press conference is set for 11.00am tomorrow in Sheeds lunch-box.

But he's only going up to "check out the facilities", right?

Joel Mac more likely.

Derp.

The 'listed captain of the twos / development coach' seems most likely.

Then again, Luke Power is already set to do much the same.

I guess it makes sense, they can afford to take on a set of older players who might only be able to give half a season's worth of games, with periodic rests. Given that with so many kids there isn't likely to be any real team stability anyway, why not?

Best wishes to Junior if he does get a role. You'd imagine he'd been on the longer-term radar for assistance coaching in general.

if half these guys spend part time in the 2's and rotate through the seniors when needed, like GCS have done with Ablett this year, but with fewer games each. The GWS have mentioned they may have to recruit some Senior players in 2012. So some are on for one year. To teach.

#Edit: Junior would make an Excellent Playing Coach for they're 2nd's... And Poss' an excellent Senior Coach one day.

From twitter: Spyandsource:

GWS presser tomorrow to announce that James McDonald will be coming out of retirement in a playing/coaching role for the next 2 years.

your kidding, how old is junior now? he must be 35, anyway good luck to him, they are going to have about 6-7 blokes in their 30's and the rest 22 or under, its going to be a disaster for them.

heard Sean Charles and Shane Woewodin are signing 2 year deals and their trying to get Neita to go play FF if not Matthew Lloyd. Sheed's presser is in his wine cellar and if you don't drink forget it, so looks like little $2 mil Tommy will come come home crying to Mummy again.

Just heard from my mate whose brother is with GWS that Paul Wheatley, Matty Whelan and Byron Pickett will all be lining up with GWS next year.

A Matty Whelan type would be very handy I imagine Sheeds would be thinking, &, there may be one about soon. Baker!

Sheeds is giving us a 'slap' for overlooking him and Junior.

Junior could have played with US, this year, in the same 'role' they're going to use him for next year.

Saw the article...it has been reported before.

GWS are going to have an interesting side. A bunch of guys who should and have retired and kids. Though I do like the idea but it only works with their extended squad.

GWS are drafting from a weak draft pool this year.

GCSuns drafted from a super strong draft pool, and struggled. Probably one or two senior players short.

Sheedy's seen & learnt. He's no fool. The wily old Celt! It'll take him a little longer to develop that team so he's recruiting senior players over a 2 Yr period. He'll be heavily into Pendlebury IMO next year for 2013.

Oh boy. Looking forward to copping some more flack from my mates over this one.

I'm numb to the pain now though so it's all good.

I sincerely wish Junior all the best and hope he does well on the field next season.

Wow. McDonald, Power, Brogan, they're doing well enticing retirees to come play for them. Should be an eclectic mix of 18 year olds and 30+ year olds.

It will be a sad day for Melbourne when he steps out on the field in those [censored] colours, I'm very disappointed.

Twaang

I admire Junior, but it will be a tough year.

I wonder if Brock will end up there.

Sad to see.

Even sadder is that our lasting memories of him will not only be of him playing in those colours, but he'll be largely ineffective.

Really a glorified assistant coach.

Can't really blame the guy though, Robbie.

I don't, I blame the club for the way they handled it and the fact they haven't got him at the club in some capacity. On the other hand I would hate to see him look stupid and hope he decides to call it a day if it looks like he's starting to.

Melbourne really gives me the shits the way they handle things at times.

Will he play? He's 35 for chrissakes, people in here have been watching him do ok playing in lower leagues down here.

If he plays, it surely won't be more than 3 or 4 games.

Must be April 1st. Must check the calendar.

Like the change Rhino. There was a player!

Who cares?

I have woken up to an alternate realty. Can they be serious Junior is going around next year what a joke.

They are taking the [censored] surely as if we haven't been humiliated enough we cop this crap.

I don't know what to make of this it's stunning

Agreed. I just feel sad about it. I never like seeing Melbourne players I've enjoyed watching run around in other colours. Despite McDonald's work ethic and character, he's not going to be setting the world on fire, and I'll be burning images of him in a GWS guernsey from my retina. A smaller scale version of Michael Jordan playing for the Wizards.

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

It seems like only yesterday that these two sides faced off against each other in the centre of the continent. It was when Melbourne was experiencing a rare period of success with five wins from its previous six matches including victories over both of last year’s grand finalists.  Well, it wasn’t yesterday but it was early last month and it remains etched clearly in the memory. The Saints were going through a slump and the predicted outcome of their encounter at TIO Traeger Park was a virtual no-brainer. A Melbourne victory and another step closer to a possible rise into finals contention. Something that was unthinkable after opening the season with five straight defeats.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.
